The Magic Between Milestones!

Watching Adrienne's journey with ceramics over the past year and a half has been incredible. From joining a weekly group to creating wonderful pieces, she's brought her passion home and set up a cozy station to keep creating. I've witnessed her dedication and inspiration, and seen her tackle stress and anxiety with confidence. Proud doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. She's a talented, creative force who reminds me that showing up, no matter what, is progress. First ceramics pop-up was a success!

Give her page a follow and check out her amazing work! .by.enne

A busy but awesome week has gone by. There’s so many things that were celebrated and a couple things that weren’t recorded like a Friendsgiving meal to celebrate with some fellow Americans here in Portugal.

1. Current Korean drama that we’re watching, Dear X
2. Was promoted to Brown Belt in Jiu jitsu by my coach, Ricardo Vieira!
3. A calm afternoon using our hands, .by.enne
4/5. Last week sent us a load of fresh 🌶️ from Sweden! This week making a number of things with them!
6. Fun zoom calls and meetings with clients and coaches in the US even during a busy holiday week. 🦃
7. Nothing beats the vibes when Kaka wants to cuddle with us while reading a book. Current book, The Fourth Daughter by Lyn Liao Butler

How’d your week go?

There’s nothing like change to remind you to be grateful of what you have (or had).

While the past few years have had some pretty big changes for us, we’ve finally reached a season that feels more like fine-tuning instead of major reworking. It was a bit like being in constant survival mode and trying to anticipate what would go wrong — so we’re grateful for the change of pace and the shift to anticipating all that will go right.

We’re exciting for the life we’re crafting here and the relationships we’re building upon. We’re thankful to all of you who have and are cheering us on, celebrating this season together — from all over the world.

First road trip in Portugal to explore a completely new place we’ve never been. Portugal is beginning to feel more like home as we learned to navigate through different tiny towns and huge roundabouts, driving an unnecessarily large vehicle because they didn’t have the intended size, so the rental company gave us a “free upgrade”. We got to practice more of our Portuguese in villages were people didn’t assume we needed to speak English and it almost made our attempts seem more natural. Lousã and the Schist Villages are beautiful and definitely have a special place in our hearts.

The biggest lesson in travel: it matters who you're with. Whatever the wonders, the food, the views, the incidents, or the weather; it can be made better or worse by whoever is by your side.

Fortunately for us, we were able to travel together early in our relationship (imagine your first big fight next to the most scenic and serene lake, on the opposite side of the world) - and that helped test and shape our foundation. Being together in different environments challenged us to lean on and learn from each other.

Luckily you don't actually have to travel that far for your relationships to benefit from the "travel test" - you just need to be in a new place to the both of you. It's neutral territory, it's equal opportunity for each person to explore a new thing or a new part of themselves, and also the special chance to witness their partner's growth and share the memories.

What was a big lesson travel taught you?

Lousã is such a beautiful town. Glad we got to explore the surrounding villages of Casal Novo, Talasnal, and Candal. Other than wonderful conversations with parents and crazy unbelievable sunsets, exploring Lousã was a magical experience.

Crappy weather has landed and honestly I (Carl) used to really hate the rain.

But a friend once said, “Rain is just sunlight in disguise, no weather can stop those on the path to becoming their best self.”

Somehow.. that changed everything

So we stayed in, cooked dinner, and remembered that not every plan needs sunshine, just intention ☁️ ✨

Used to think being positive meant being happy all the time. We’ve come to realize that it’s really about what you notice. The more we started paying attention to things we’ve accomplished from big wins to the smallest, rather than what we haven’t, made it easier to see the good. Even on the messy days.

If you’re trying to be more positive, start small
✨notice one thing that didn’t go wrong
✨say something kind to yourself
✨let a small moment feel big for a bit

We thought we were looking for a new country to live in. But after 22 countries, we realized what we were really searching for was a way to slow down. Portugal reminded us that home isn’t a destination - it’s a feeling built from the smallest things

We didn’t know what to expect from a visit from an uncle and aunt on my sister-in-law’s side… We’ve never spent much time with them. Just a few Filipino family parties and I think we all know how crazy and hectic and overwhelming those events can be.

Honestly, it ended up teaching us something beautiful. Real connection doesn’t need to be built over years. Just shared time was needed. Our conversations went into the night where we lost track of time. The only thing that would have made it better would be if they stayed longer. We are blessed to have connected with you both and can’t wait until you either visit again or move here!! Love you guys!!

A mini scrapbook for July: it's been a big and hot and windy summer so far 😜 but that's pretty typical, now that it's our second summer here we know what to expect.

Recap: we've gone into Lisbon more times in this month than the rest of the year combined, hosted more friends, revisited a favorite hike in Sintra and found more delicious eats in our neighborhood.

Stay tuned for more hot news 😆
