The US Embassy in Accra has officially inaugurated its new EducationUSA Centre, a facility dedicated to assisting Ghanaian students seeking higher education opportunities.

The centre, opened in Osu-Accra last Wednesday November 27, 2024, is a US Government sponsored network of 450 centres in 170 countries around the globe, mandated to provide comprehensive, current, accurate and impartial information on US higher education opportunities.

Accra, is set to come alive this December as it hosts this year's edition of "The African Festival," a celebration that harnesses the transformative power of culture, arts and music to promote awareness of climate change.

The three-day event will begin with a grand opening on Saturday, December 28, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The event will be headlined by celebrated African musician, Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

The secretary general United Nations, António Guterres in a statement issued on Wednesday, announced the appointment of Major General Anita Asmah of Ghana as Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).

Major General Asmah succeeds Lieutenant General Nirmal Kumar Thapa of Nepal, who will complete his assignment in mid-December.

Major General Asmah brings to the position 31 years of leadership and command experience in the Ghana Armed Forces and United Nations peacekeeping.

FIFA has officially named the hosts for the 2030 and 2034 Men’s World Cups, with Spain, Portugal, and Morocco set to jointly host the 2030 tournament, and Saudi Arabia confirmed as the venue for the 2034 edition.

The announcement was made during a vote at the Extraordinary FIFA Congress yesterday.

FIFA has officially named the hosts for the 2030 and 2034 Men’s World Cups, with Spain, Portugal, and Morocco set to jointly host the 2030 tournament, and Saudi Arabia confirmed as the venue for the 2034 edition.

Cameroon-born Koyo Kouoh, chief curator of the Zeitz MOCAA Museum in Cape Town, South Africa, will lead the 61st Venice Biennale, taking over from Adriano Pedrosa.

The Board of La Biennale di Venezia has selected Koyo Kouoh, one of Africa’s most prominent curators, to lead the 61st edition of the Venice Biennale, in Venice, Italy from April to November 2026.

Kouoh is the first African woman to be appointed to this role.

The upcoming Biennale will consist of a large, themed group show to be curated by Kouoh and several independent national pavilions.

Ghana’s former President John Dramani Mahama has made a historic comeback by winning the country's 2024 presidential election.

This was after his opponent Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat in a press briefing earlier today.

Meanwhile the Electoral Commission is yet to officially declare the results.

The commission has urged the citizens to exercise patience as it undergoes due process of collation of results.

The shared passion for football, especially the Black Stars, fosters unity, as do cultural festivals and traditions that celebrate our heritage.

The values of hospitality and community further strengthen social bonds.

Ghanaians are united by a collective desire for national progress, respect for the rule of law, and the influence of religion.

And not forgetting the love for traditional foods such as jollof rice, waakye, banku, and fufu which brings us closer together, ensuring that national unity remains central to the electoral process.

Ethiopian Airlines flight ETH8719 has made history as the first international flight to land at the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi.

The flight touched down at 10:22 am today, marking a milestone in Ghana’s aviation sector.

This is the first international flight to touch down at the airport since it gained international status. It forms part of Ghana’s efforts to strengthen its air transport network, with a focus on extending connectivity beyond Accra.

The Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture (MoTAC) has announced that the craftsmanship of Ghana’s traditional woven textile, Kente, has been inscribed onto the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity under the 2003 Convention fig the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

According to a statement signed by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, this significant recognition emphasises the cultural and historical importance of Kente a revered hand-woven textile originating from the Asante and Ewe communities of Ghana.

This state-of-the-art system is proudly Ghanaian designed, built, and owned.

By incorporating advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, biometrics, and real-time data, the system allows Ghanacard holders to quickly pass through designated e-gates upon arrival, without the need for immigration officials.

Similarly, foreign visitors and members of the diaspora can access the e-gates by pre-registering their biometric data and travel credentials.
