A great loss to the community.

Our hearts are broken, as we mourn the loss of our beloved sister, friend, confidant, teacher, and leader — Cheryl A. Hickmon. There are no words that can completely express our love and gratitude for our National President. Members of the Hartford Alumnae Chapter will forever cherish her gifts, talents, intellect, and leadership.

President Hickmon was the epitome of a Delta Woman. She was the living example of scholarship, sisterhood, and service. Though her absence leaves a hole in the heart of Hartford Alumnae, our sister's legacy will live on. We will continue to lift up her family and our entire sisterhood during this difficult time.

Our newest exhibit "An Image is Worth a Thousand Words" opens next week!

We all know the old saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” Over the years, through translations and appropriations, the exact wording has changed, but the sentiment remains the same: complex or nuanced feelings and thoughts can sometimes best be summed up in a single image. See how these selected artists use their craft to express what is too complex for words a lone.

The exhibit is on display May 27-June 12, Thursday-Saturday, 1:00-5:00pm and viewable online: www.artscentereast.org/1000-words

GIVE BACK BOXES Give Back Box
Did you know you can get rid of gently used clothing, shoes, etc by donating with the Give Back Box Program?
Yesterday I dropped off the first four Give Back Boxes of the year. It makes me happy being able to help others by showing Gratitude.
It's a great way to start of the year and declutter at the same time. Did you get some new clothes for Christmas? Do you do lots of online shopping?
Take those Amazon boxes or any box in good condition to fill with those items you would generally but aside to donate later. It's a great way to help and not have to set things aside for later.
Did you know you can select a charity you want your box to go to? Great way to help and cost you nothing but time to fill the box, print the label then drive to drop off location when you're out running errands.

`Looking for a great way to help your neighbors on Giving Tuesday? How about Foodshare ?

Foodshare’s food distribution at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field will continue into December.

Foodshare has been distributing food at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford for the past eight months since the start of the pandemic. This distribution site alone has distributed 7 million pounds of food and has served over 210,000 households; many new to food insecurity due to COVID-19.

“As we head into the holiday season we know that the need is great but that with winter weather conditions we will need to continue tapering off the distribution at Rentschler Field over the next few weeks,” said Jason Jakubowski, President and CEO of Foodshare.

Foodshare is encouraging people to reach out to our network of over 200 partner pantries and meal programs in Greater Hartford. Our partner programs have food and resources available to help community members who are struggling with food insecurity. To find a pantry and other resources near you please call 2-1-1 or go to www.211ct.org.

We will be distributing food on Tuesday and Thursday; 8:30 am – 12:00 pm
CLOSED on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The LAST Scheduled Distribution is Tues, Dec. 22.

Address: 615 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT 06118 – Silver Lane entrance; gates will close at Noon

One allocation of food per car to ensure that we have enough food for everyone.

In the event of winter weather check Foodshare’s social media as well as NBC Connecticut and FOX61 for schedule updates.

This emergency distribution at Rentschler Field is in addition to Foodshare’s ongoing efforts to provide food to a network of over 260 pantries, community kitchens, and Mobile Foodshare sites throughout the region.

Community members can access help through the following:
- Mobile Foodshare an outdoor pantry-on-wheels, to find a site near you please text “FOODSHARE” to 85511 or go to www.foodshare.org/mobile.
- To find a food pantry and other resources near you, call 2-1-1 or go to https://www.211ct.org/.
