We finally made it to our destination in Wyoming!!! McCoy and I spent several long, long days in the car to get here, but we made it!! I don’t ever want to drive again haha. It was 29 hours of just driving. We passed through 7 seven states to get to Wyoming!! It’s a beautiful, very different part of the country than I’m used to, so I’m definitely looking forward to my month out here! I’ll be at an equine hospital for my third rotation of clinical year. Finally get to see some horses!

Hello! I forgot to mention it when I was released (cause I needed sleep), but I successfully completed my overnight shifts in the ER at CASE! I love the doctor I worked under and the overnight techs. They’re awesome and made it fun!

But. Staying up all night on purpose is not my cup of tea. I hate it. I don’t even stay up late! I made it through 9 years of college without staying up all night and it was definitely for a reason. Though I had a good time in the ER, I definitely am not made for 3rd shift of anything, haha.

And for anyone that says something like, “Haha, loser, that’s what you’ll be doing as a horse vet!” To that I say FALSE. I will be out on emergencies occasionally and may stay up all night to help a patient, but it’s definitely different from a shift intended to be overnight. I am a daytime type person and will stay that way.

I just scheduled my appointment to take the NAVLE!!! It’s exciting and daunting at the same time. I’m excited to get it over with, haha!

My time at Sheabel Veterinary Hospital has come to an end. Honestly I’m really sad. I loved the people there and I loved all the opportunities I was given there. I did lots more surgeries, helped with other procedures, and got to meet tons of patients. I made really good friends there too! I’m looking forward to my next rotation, but this first one is really setting the bar high. Thanks, Sheabel!! 🥰
Another highlight: I was able to see my best friends during this block!! Had to say goodbye to them for a few months. That was tough too, but we are all on one heck of an adventure!

An extra special shout out to the best junior surgery team ever—team 36! I had the absolute best team I could’ve asked for! Together we spayed 3 dogs and neutered 6 others! We learned so much and I am so grateful to have had the best, smartest, and kindest teammates ever!

I am a very busy person who is usually only too eager to help. I am the President of a club, on the eboard for two others, do research, am on the events committee, and am one of the 2 tutors for anatomy where over 200 students are taking the class. I do a lot! And I don’t need an award for any of it. Just being a person that is thought of a nice, helpful, willing to teach and help others out, is all I needed. But recently I have been being thanked for my help and I was absolutely TOUCHED to be the person a friend thought of for a distinguished student award. I’m not getting any awards, but I am blessed to be appreciated by friends and by my kiddos that I tutor. I appreciate being appreciated 🥰🥰🥰

Last week, Lenny and I had the great fortune of going to the AAEP Conference in San Antonio! It was so much fun, the world of equine medicine is more amazing, friendly, and full of opportunities than I hoped, and I’m really excited to graduate and join it!

Well, we did it! Our first surgery at LMU was a roaring success!! I have the best surgery team ever! Tristan and Taylor, I love you both and am so happy you had my back! We make a fabulous team! I was the surgeon and successfully completed my second canine castration. Soon I’ll be really good at pickin pockets 😉

Also, my best friends were surgeons too and they rocked their surgeries! Future Drs. Thurston and Wagoner were amazing!! I’m so proud of them!!

The last day of my last summer (ever) is coming to an end! Next summer, I will be hard at work at my 4th year rotations. I look back on this summer and I’m so grateful for my time at Electric City Animal Clinic and everything I learned there, I’m so, so in love with my bestest tiny friend McCoy, and I’m happy I got to spend time with my family. I’m disappointed one of my externships didn’t work out, but I am excited for future opportunities. Even more, I’m so happy to be reunited by my friends! On to the next step of becoming doctors!

A very exciting thing happened today!! I performed my first full surgery!! My darling Rodger got neutered by me! Somebody picked his pockets while he was sleeping! 😱 I am so pleased that Electric City Animal Clinic and Dr. Mark Finke allowed me to not just help, but to fully perform the operation. Dr. Mark’s guidance was wonderful and I’m so glad he was with me to walk me through it. I learned a lot!! Real animals are definitely different than the models! Rodge isn’t seeming too thrilled about it right now but I am. Oh, and all of this was after we got rear-ended on the way to work this morning!

I am so, so excited and blessed to say that I am one of the recipients of the Harvey and Lois Schell Endowed Scholarship! I’ve been working really hard in school and was chosen for this honor! Only two more weeks of schooling and I will be officially halfway to becoming Dr. T! 😍😁😊 Oh and congratulations to all the other award and scholarship recipients!! You’re all amazing!!

Another day, another milestone! My first full run through with my spay model. Putting all the skills I’ve learned and been practicing was really fun! Parts of it were frustrating too, but I got through it. Also, shout out to my beloved Elizabeth Wagoner for being an amazing assistant and buddy to help me! Getting closer and closer to being doctors!

Guess who is back at it again for the beginning of our second year of veterinary school!! The whole class of 2024, but mostly us 😂 Trey and I went with a Hawaiian theme to celebrate the first day. Things are going really well on my summer internship!! I’m having a lot of fun, getting to practice neat things, and getting to see a lot of cool animals!! Of course there are plenty of cats and dogs, but I love all the exotic animals I get to see! ECAC was a great choice to spend my internship time. Look at all the cute animals!!

Hello! JT here with an update about my summer! My internship at the Electric City Animal Clinic is going great! The doctors are amazing, the techs are heroes, and I’m learning a lot! They’ve put me to work and I love being helpful! I’ve gotten to watch some cool surgeries and see some exotic patients and this is only week 1! I’m looking forward to the rest of my time at ECAC!

We can see the light at the end of the tunnel! This time next week, both future Dr. Ts will be done with our first year of veterinary school!! That means 25% doctors! There’s a lot to do before then, but we’ve accomplished so much already this year! We will finish strong!

04/19/2021

Yet another (another) test is thankfully done with for the future Dr. Ts! Keeping our chins up and persevering through life, school, and tests can be difficult for us both, but good results make it worth it! We actually get a short break from tests now and I am so excited about that 😂

As Spring break for LMU comes to a close, The Dr T’s had a relaxing time. DT and PB went to the Indianapolis Zoo and got to shadow their veterinary staff for a day. While no big procedures or immobilizations took place, both DT and PB got to see a large number of cases, including rechecks, parasites, bandage changes, and wound cleaning. Now we are in the final 6-8 weeks of the second semester. The final push for Dr. T’s first year in veterinary school. Hard to think it’s coming to a close , but we have to finish strong. - DT

So the future Dr. Ts are finally released from school for a much needed spring break!! I am so grateful for such a break, haha! Another reason to celebrate is the awesome results from the SAVMA symposium’s Zuku trivia game! I’m gonna be totally honest and say that I was not expecting this despite my love and skill for trivia 😂😂 But I am also happy with how much I’ve learned in life so far.

A huge shoutout to our good friend and study buddy, Raul, who also kicked butt in the game! Also to as a whole for being the top scoring school! Yippee!

Hey all, DT here. This semester has had a rough start, but we are trying to take it one day at a time. We have had at least one exam every week except 1 since coming back. Outside of that, we had 19 lectures in 4 days last week, most of which were dense infectious disease lectures. We have 2 more weeks of exams then a much-needed break for spring break. We have survived to this point. If we have made it here LMU 1st-years, we can make it 2 more weeks. If we can make it for 2 more weeks, we can make it to summer. Baby steps. My father had a saying when I was younger, "How do you eat an elephant?" The answer was one bite at a time. You can't worry about eating the whole animal until you eat the first bite. That saying has helped me when I felt overwhelmed. I hope it helps you. We can do this.

You know you’re in vet school when you dream about being a brand new vet after graduation and having a wild, wild farm call that somehow also includes your own horse and a successful outcome, but with your mistakes somehow leading to you not getting paid. 🤔🤔😂😂 ~JT

DT3 and JT had an exciting day yesterday!! It was our first in person lab with live animals! We got to perform injections and blood draws on horses and cattle! It was a lot of fun and so nice to see our fellow students in person! Of course, we forgot to take a picture to commemorate, but we are making progress every day!

01/11/2021

It is our first day back to our 2nd semester of veterinary school!! I know that we greatly appreciate and absolutely needed a break! However, it’s time to get back to it. We’re taking some interesting classes that I’m looking forward to! We will also be continuing to work on our research project, so that’s exciting. Here’s to the start of another, hopefully great, semester!
