Get to know Spangle a little better in this series by Megan Hart!
Welcome my friend Anne Spangle to this week's !
Anne and I first met while living on the same dorm floor in college...so we've been friends since 1989! I'm a big fan of her sound and love seeing her play live -- something I really miss now that I've moved to Ohio. I'll have to get her out here to do some shows locally!
1. What are your musical influences?
I have so many throughout my whole life, it's quite a mishmash. I can say who is inspiring me most at the moment and what's on repeat in my CD player (yes, I buy and play CD'S!!!) I'm currently obsessed with Brandi Carlile, The White Buffalo, Samantha Fish, Lucero, Jason Isbell, and Grace Potter. All great songwriters and all have the ability to convey passion in their lyrics and music. I love lyrics that touch on pain and love and confusion and everything in between!
2. Describe your sound.
It's hard to pinpoint exactly as I don't fall into any of the standard genres. And I'm ok with that! I don't care to ever be cookie cutter. I describe my style as Americana-Rock, but there are influences of blues and folk in there too.
3. You do some amazing covers, but also write and perform your own music. Do you have a favorite song to cover, and which of your own ranks as your favorite?
I don't have a favorite cover to be honest. I like doing covers here and there, and when I was starting out I needed to do a lot of covers to fill the hours in shows. But now I prefer to do my own songs as much as possible with just a few covers thrown in. I have a few 80's covers like Cindy Lauper's Time after Time, or The Thompson Twins "Hold Me Now" that I like, but probably my most popular cover is Stevie Nicks' "Landslide". I have a few extra favorite songs of my own to do, "Ride Your Wild Horses" off of my debut EP, and "Letting Go" off the latest release with my band, Strangest Hearts.
4. You perform solo and with a band — can you tell us more about that?
I haven't done any true solo gigs in quite a while. I perform with my duo partner, Scott, on percussion and backing vocals. I also have a full band called Strangest Hearts and we just released our first full length album. AND I'm excited about my third project, a brand new trio called Ghost Town Serenade with Scott and an awesome singer/songwriter named Kenn Chase. We are focused on original material and we have an Americana/Rockabilly vibe. Each project is different and lends to different audiences and venues.
5. You taught yourself to play the guitar. Do you play any other instruments?
Well, I played the clarinet in school? Haha, but I'm sure I don't remember any notes on that at all. I did take piano lessons growing up and felt pretty good on it when I was younger, but really guitar has been my focus so long that is my go-to instrument. I'd like to get back to piano someday.
6. Where can we find out more about your music, where to listen and where to purchase?
Both my debut EP "FOUR" and Strangest Hearts' debut full length album have just recently been released on all streaming outlets by Lone Girl Records. You know, iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, etc. etc. If you're into physical CD's, you can message any of the following pages to purchase via snail mail. Strangest Hearts also has a YouTube Channel:

7. You perform live often — what do you love about singing for a crowd?
I love when you can connect with people and you know they are enjoying the music. If my songs touch people, that's what it's all about.
