Synopsis:

Women are broken. Broken women love falling for men who need to be fixed!

Joye was no different. Behind her perfectly curated life, she searched for someone to fill the void of loneliness she felt for many years. Joye treated her relationships as though they were over-the-counter medicine to maintain her "sickness" but never cure it. She entered pseudo-relationships and sexual encounters that exploited her need for validation and intimacy in exchange for temporary relief. She loved hard, but with little understanding of herself and the men she chose.

As Joye entered and exited relationships, she appeared to grow. It wasn't until life forced her to confront her past that she saw herself through the lens she had used to judge everyone else's flaws and inconsistencies.

But was her discovery of herself too late? Would Joye ever receive the love she desired? After all, she had just turned forty. It would take one relationship from her past to resurface the drama she had been running from for fifteen years to help her find out.
I loved everything about this book. The cover really caught my attention. I don’t knw if its my mind being naughty but the cover looks like a p- petal on a flower. 😈 Anyway, this is the best book I’ve read in awhile. It took me two days tops to read it. Book is hella relatable as well. The book is definitely a page turner and the author does a great job of drawing you in and keeping you interested. Book pairs well with a glass of wine.

We are the origin by C.M Lockhart- what initially attracted me to this book was the cover art. The cover art was beautifully done. Upon reading the book, I saw the potential it has to be a great read for YAs. I love the fact that it discusses goddesses and gods. The book is nice and if you're into anime and things such as that you will really enjoy it as there are some parallels located throughout the book. Overall the book was a decent read, I do not read too many fantasy books but this one managed to hold my attention.

DNF-Ties That Tether by Jane Igharo- I loved the cover of this book and thats what drew me initially. I am a sucker for a beautiful cover. However, I could not bring myself to finish this book. I don’t know why. Nothing really grabbed my attention in the first few pages. From reading the first few pages we meet the main character-I gathered that her family wants her to marry Nigerian but she is having trouble with Nigerian men. Even though i was curious to see if she would marry someone from her culture or if her family would eventually support her in marrying someone outside her culture the book drawled on. I will revisit this book at another time.

Somebody Give This Heart a Pen- by Sophia Thakur… What caught my attention first was the beautiful cover! Quote: This growth is not for you or in spite of you. I felt that! I really enjoyed this book of poetry. There were a lot of uplifting poems and just too many things I loved about it. I really like how every couple of pages, there are parables or proverbs printed. Another quote that stood out to me was, “Silence can not be misquoted.” You can say that again! I picked this book up at five and below. Go get you a copy quick!

All my Attala Co/Mississippi folks, you may want to pick this one up. I'll post the link in the comments. Here is the backstory: When I was researching my “Flanagan” heritage, I was stuck at my great grandfather’s -(William Flanagan’s..) information for a long time. (years) I came across a dissertation written by the author of this book where he had written of my Great Grandfather and his ability to carry a weapon in the war when most African Americans were not allowed weapons. Through that information, I was able to find out my Great Grandfather’s dad’s name and information. His dad was a white slave overseer, and I am assuming my great grandfather was allowed a weapon for his ability to pass. Nevertheless, I look forward to reading this book and learning more about the people of Attala County.

Fun Tidbit-My daughter is three, and she already knows how to read. Knowing her letter sounds has greatly influenced her reading skills. I love these little books for her because, in addition to reading the words, she can also use the pictures to help with predictive text. This is definitely my mini me..she emulates what she sees. She sees Mommy pick up a book, and she picks up her books! She is my broke best friend in every sense of the word. 😂Kid Book reviews are loading.

Quote from book: “Strong men say they can handle a strong woman until they are actually confronted with one”. This book was effortlessly done. I enjoyed everything about it. The storyline keeps you interested and makes you want to read more. In the book we meet Clover who has just obtained a job as the press secretary for the highly “single” and handsome president of the United States(Teddy). Cue a little cat and mouse game of flirting… throw in a dash of drama and you have a great read.

There is a tiny library walking distance from my house. I am so excited! So how do these things work? I took a book. Do I return with one of mine? This is located in someone’s yard. Should I go up and knock on the door and introduce myself like hey I am a fellow reader. Would that be weird?

“Yall be careful. It’s dangerous being a girl out there.”What I found out was that the danger wasn't always out there…” -The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls-this book forces you to realize that sometimes we are not okay, and that is fine. It encourages you to reflect on your own family relationships and dynamics…where can you run when you need to get away? Where does your help come from? I'll admit the book started off too slow for me, and I almost put it down, but as I read on, I became more intrigued by it for reasons all my own. The book is told from three different points of view, three sisters-who after their mom died, were forced to learn some hard lessons about life. When the oldest sister goes to jail, there is yet another shift in family dynamics as the other siblings struggle with their demons and helping to raise the older sibling’s kids. All of the siblings are dealing with something which makes you reflect on how much people really hide from the world.. Overall, I would say the book was a great read.

The Crossover by Kwame Alexander—oh how I Iove this book! It is a YA book, winner of the Newberry Medal and Coretta Scott King Award. The book is a basketball novel, written in free verse poetry mainly. It can be described as a coming of age story as the main character Josh, grows and navigates, basketball, girls and just life in general! Definitely giving this one to my 11 year old son to read!

Not A Happy Family- by Shari Lapena -The story opens with a family dinner. The Mertons are a rich family with three adult kids all of which have their own problems. One son who can’t manage his finances, a daughter struggling to have kids and another daughter an artist who is considered wild and free. Dinner goes as expected, arguments and disagreements ensue.. all the kids leave. Shortly after their parents are found dead by the maid and what follows is classic whodunit? The book definitely offers enough twists and turns to keep a reader intrigued! The ending shocked me! Great Read!

JLF Review: This book is set in rural Arkansas, so being as though I live in Forrest City, you already know that got my attention. The book is an urban fiction tale about a man with two sons Jacob and Esau ; one he catered to be cause he was a manly ; the other son was homosexual. IThe story takes place in the sixties , when it was frowned on -not so open and free like today, anyway, after seeing his son embracing and kissing a man in the park . The dad decided he wouldn’t have nothing to do with him, for years. This book is a letter to that son ; when the father found out he was terminally ill and wanted to reach out to him and make things right between them. The characters in this book are all black so it resonated a bit more with me. This was a very good book, I am sure most not just black people will like it! #

A JLF review: Spoiler Alert—So the book opens with this reality star , and her sister, one was raised by the mom and the other was raised by the dad; the reality star was on drugs but she had recently stopped using them. The reality star winds up dead, someone set it up to look like an overdose. Her body was found in the park near her sister’s house, naked. The sister wasn’t having that. The sister then sets out on a quest to figure out who killed her sister. The twists and turns ultimately take you to a perpetrator the sister had never suspected. Start to finish a great read!

The Skin I’m In by Sharon G Flake. I loved everything about this book! It is an excellent coming-of-age story and totally relatable. I wish I had something like this when I was growing up, struggling with my insecurities! In school, I was often overlooked, talked about, and made fun of at times. I remember being this skinny, crooked tooth, bowlegged, big-lipped girl. I remember a teacher asking me whether I was anorexic as she went into the back room of her classroom to pig out on snacks. She had all the little debbie cakes!! I laugh now because I know she was just projecting. I remember boys making fun of my lips because they were the biggest things on my face. The same lips people pay to get now. Funny how that worked out. Back then, I let those things get to me. I and the main character of this book relate because she is the younger me… and as I raise my daughter, I tell her she is beautiful every day. I call her a pretty girl every day! This book is great for young girls who worry about their looks… Love yourself!!

When You See Me - Lisa Gardner.. This is the best thriller book I’ve read in a while. I couldn’t put it down! It is definitely a page turner! The book tells a story from four different point of views. Each person connected by the grim discovery of females remains being discovered in a small town in Georgia. The novel opens with action as a young girl’s life changes in a split second. Through this young girl we meet a working mother who wonders if she is missing out on a lot at home, a survivor, and a woman hardened by her job. Each woman representing a different tenet of strength! Overall a great read.. if you see this out and about grab it!! You won’t be disappointed!!

So if you guys were following the drama that unfolded on my page awhile back you would know how long I have been waiting on this box. I ordered this box back in 3/2021 just got it a year later. I sent countless emails, exchanged some words with the owner, sent more emails! It was not until I contacted the better business bureau that I received an email back and finally got this box. For all the hell I went through to get it, I would not recommend this company or box to anyone! They blocked me so I can’t tag them but they are affiliates of Ashley Antoinette and Bookloverco. Boooooooooooo 🍅 tomato 🍅!!! The items are nice, but definitely not worth the money I spent and the pain and suffering!

For Everyone by Jason Reynolds- I really loved this book. It is not really a book but a letter or poem if you must a letter to dreamers: Some of my favorite quotes that resonated with me are: All of us out here slumped over wearing weird fake broken smiles, trying to avoid the truth:That we all got road rage —from traveling the road less traveled…

This letter is for all of us-the awkward angels with crooked halos and second hand wings. —with this quote I felt so seen! Overall great read. Finished it in one sitting! I also like on the front cover it has to and from there multiple times meaning you can pass the book on to someone after you’ve gotten what you need from it.

Red at the Bone-Jacqueline Woodson- This may be an unpopular opinion, but I did not enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. I give it a 6/10, because as I read, there was something that propelled me along and prompted me to finish it. The book is told from different points of view and has a lot of flip-flopping from other times periods throughout the novel. There was one chapter I read that was very short, and I couldn't figure out who was the person narrating that chapter. The book is centered around this young couple who end up having a baby at 15, and it discusses a host of other things. These things include the mother struggling to be a mother, the dad falling complacently into society and becoming a working father in a mailroom, and even the grandparent’s disappointment. The story ends with the mother having to become an actual mother to her daughter when the daughter is like 18 because by then, the dad and grandparents have all passed. The book's ending was sad because I can already predict the problems that will arise in this relationship between mother and daughter. After all, they never really had a relationship. The book represents and showcases all the things and thoughts that go through various parties' heads when a young girl (15) becomes pregnant.

Deranged-by Marcus Kimbrough-I loved this book. It read like an episode of Criminal Minds. It was a short and easy read. I’ve been putting off this book for awhile. In the book we meet Nick who is searching for his Valerie. His favorite song being “Solid as a Rock” by Ashford and Simpson. The book is definitely a page turner. The book of course ended with a cliff hanger and although the ending seemed rushed, I still enjoyed it.

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. I came across Colson Whitehead awhile back when I read a book by him titled “The Nickel Boys”. I really like his style of writing and how his books just flowed so when I saw this book at the bookstore I had to purchase it. This was a great and easy read. There were a lot of parallels and references to actual things that have happened in the course of American History. Colson did his background work. The book is told from different characters and their points of view but the main character is a slave named Cora. Throughout the book Cora escapes misfortune at every turn it seems. The book ends with her still running.

Humans of New York: Brandon Stanton. This book is normally $35. I frequent his instagram page to read the stories! One day they posted it was going on sale for $7. I ran not walked to Amazon and purchased my copy. I love reading about people and their lives! I always find lessons in what they are saying and what they have been through. Some of yall should be familiar with Mrs. Tangueray and if you’re not, baby go to his page and read her stories. You will have to scroll down a bit. This book tells stories of the human experience and life.! It is a great book! I have purchased every copy. Brandon has been documenting human stories for ten years. There is also pictures that go with each story! If biographies aren’t your thing, no worry. He words theses stories till where they will hold your attention. Most of the stories are a page or less. Good reading!!

Anybody who knows me knows that I like all things supernatural, sci-fi, or even horror.
I haven’t had much time to read anything but, “The Eos Key: Wynter Blood Book 1” by D.M. Lewry did not disappoint. I really enjoyed this book. The opening chapters reminded me of the show TrueBlood, and that is what ultimately hooked me. The book itself is an entirely different storyline, though. In the beginning, we meet our main character Alia who is dealing with her own demons and grappling with the death of her parents. Although she has her issues, she still cares deeply for others, and it is this caring that propels her into meeting handsome and blue-eyed Eric Wynter. Although their meeting can not be described as your run-of-the-mill man meets woman, or in this case, vampire meets woman, they become smitten with each other. Of course, when two creatures fall in love in a world where creatures aren’t supposed to exist, trouble is bound to follow. Overall, I loved the book. The chapters are told from the different characters' points of view, but this doesn’t take away from the book. I highly recommend!
