We, typically, suspend open burning each year from mid-June until mid-October, depending on conditions in the County. With that in mind - and two large wildfires in the past six weeks - we will not open burning just yet. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Update 1:30 PM.: After a search, it has been determined the bears are no longer in this immediate area. Bears are natural to the Wood River Valley habitat. The public is reminded to keep their garbage cans inside until the morning of their trash pick-up to avoid attracting bears.

Bigwood neighborhood house fire
At 1:51 AM on September 25, 2024, Ketchum Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm activation. The fire alarm alerted the home’s occupants who were able to quickly evacuate the home just before it became engulfed in fire. All the home’s occupants and pets are safe and accounted for. One resident was evaluated by EMS on the scene but was not transported to the hospital. Thirty-five firefighters from Ketchum, Sun Valley, North Blaine County, Hailey, and Wood River Fire Departments responded. As of 9 AM, firefighting operations were still ongoing. The fire cause is unknown as of this time. The state fire marshal has been requested for investigation. Firefighting efforts are likely to continue through today and possibly into tomorrow.

GREAT NEWS! Highway 21 between Lowman and Stanley will reopen this Friday at 8 AM. Please note, repairs are ongoing, so expect a reduced speed limit and occasional flagging or pilot car operations. Drive safe! Hopefully this makes it possible for everyone to make it up for Saturday’s 47th annual Fireman’s Ball Fundraiser w/ LIVE MUSIC by Godfrey Paul Band 8 p.m.

(English/Español) During the Buttercup Road closure, the West Meadow approach onto SH-75 will be intermittently closed 7:15AM - 8:45AM, Mon – Fri, to help address morning traffic congestion on the highway. This closure is to prevent the vehicles that have been diverted due to nearby Buttercup Road construction from entering the Highway at this location, which has caused backups extending into the McKercher intersection.

Due to the variability of traffic flow, measures of success will be difficult to confirm and traffic will likely remain congested throughout the remaining 6-8 week period planned for Buttercup construction. A new Blaine County fire was reported at approximately 2:45 p.m. today 9/9/2024. Crews are on the scene and there are no evacuation orders at this time. The small brush fire is an unburned area in the willows near Rock Creek Rd. in Bellevue, Idaho. We will update if conditions change.

Evacuation Status Update: The Blaine County Sheriff is lifting the Glendale Fire Mandatory Evacuation Order and Level 2 Notification for Croy Creek and Rock Creek Canyons Effective Immediately.

All properties in both canyons are now on Pre-Evacuation Notice Level 1 – "Be Ready" status. Level 1 means you should be aware danger exists in your area and maintain the readiness of people, livestock, and pets to leave if conditions change.

Residents are allowed to return to their homes. Rock Creek Rd. and Croy Creek Rd. west of Rock Creek Rd. REMAIN CLOSED to all non-residents.

Please maintain situational awareness. If you feel you are in danger, do not wait for an evacuation order. Public Safety is our Priority.

STANLEY AREA RESIDENTS
Please be advised that talks are taking place in reference to being able to remove Zone 1 from the GO status to SET and letting everyone return to their homes. As we move toward this process there are a lot of things that need to be considered and shared with the public. This needs to be a structured and organized process so we would like to advise of the steps that will be taken.
