Meet The Sanchez Family! Phillip Sanchez, a Denver native, spent much of his early life moving across the country before finding his calling in the Navy—a career that would span over four decades. Sanchez spent much of the 1980s and early 90s working as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in various naval hospitals and it was during this time in San Diego that he met his wife, Suzie. 🇺🇸

In October 2021, after 42 years in the Navy, Sanchez retired. But his commitment to service didn’t end there. Now settled in Lake Jeanette with Suzie and their Portuguese Water Dog, LeeLoo, Sanchez has found a new calling in education. Sanchez’s military career shaped him into the person he is today, but it’s his dedication to family, education, and community that drives him in retirement.

This summer, our student intern Nina Ramaswamy had the unique opportunity to immerse herself in the world of journalism, exploring techniques and styles that shape the profession.

The program, set in the heart of New York City, provided hands-on experiences with seasoned journalists and guest speakers. There, Nina honed their writing, research, and critical thinking skills, while visiting cultural landmarks. 🏙️

College Pathways of the Triad is making a difference in the community! This relatively new 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is dedicated to making high-quality college counseling free of charge to all students. With a focus on serving first-generation college students and students in underrepresented backgrounds. 🏫

However, none of this would be possible without the Director of Counseling, Kelen Walker, and the Director of Development, Harsha Mirchandani-Samtani, who are both Lake Jeanette residents. Their mission is to help others find their full potential in college and beyond. College Pathways has had an amazing impact on the community but is striving to reach more students every year.

Meet the Xu family’s Australian labradoodle, Daisy! The Xu family got Daisy during March of 2020. Her white fur reminded them of flowers. To be specific, it reminded them of a daisy. Hence, how she got her name. 🌼

According to the Xu’s, “Daisy has been the perfect companion as she is always by our side.” She loves to join the family on car rides or snuggle with them. She a also enjoys going on walks and loves watching her parents play tennis.

Meet the Palermo Family! Jim and Adelaide , along with their son James, share a love for family traditions, travel, and a close-knit community. They have called Lake Jeanette home for 11 years, and they’ve embraced every moment of it. 🏡

Living in a community where family and lifelong friends are close by has only strengthened their love for the neighborhood. “Jim’s sister lives in High Point, so we really have our support system nearby,” Adelaide says. “We’re grateful for that.” 💗

Junior League of Greensboro has been actively serving the community since its founding in 1928. What started as a small group of women with a shared vision has grown into a well-established organization dedicated to improving the lives of people in Greensboro through volunteer action and leadership development.
“Our mission of developing women leaders to create lasting community impact is at the heart of everything we do,” says Nicole Scallon, current President of the Junior League of Greensboro.

Mark your calendar for the Touch-A-Truck coming up on Sunday, October 20. This is an exciting family-friendly festival featuring interactive, hands-on learning experiences for children of all ages. Discover and learn about a variety of vehicles, with entertaining activities and attractions. Touch-A-Truck is handicap accessible and will include a sensory hour that accommodates those sensitive to
excessive stimulation. Admission proceeds support the mission of Junior League of Greensboro.

🌟 This month's featured Young Achiever is Maddie Herrick. 🌟 Maddie is an athlete and soon-to-be doctor. She is currently a junior attending Page High School. She loves country music and her three pets.

Maddie’s main pastime is tennis, but she also swims and plays lacrosse for her school. In addition, Maddie is also the editor of the Page yearbook. Her job entails editing all student life activities and organizing club pictures. As leader of her group, she creates about 12 pages in the yearbook and edits about 60 to 80 spreads!

Maddie would love to attend UNC in the future to eventually become an anesthesiologist. With someone as talented as her, that should be easily attainable. 🌟
