An honor to spin a loop around Jimmy Carter in 1979 during his presidential campaign visit to the Stockyards. The secret service had a watchful eye on me!

Double R Rodeo Company’s story is one worthy of a Hall of Fame Induction. Roland & Mary Jo Reid, CK Reid and Claude Reid have brought Double R Rodeo to an almost 80-year reign as the oldest continuously running rodeo company in the state of Texas. And the most impressive part of the story is how Double R got to where it is today.
In the 1940’s, Roland and Mary Jo Reid established the Double R Rodeo Company. They produced their first rodeo in the Hill County town of Peoria, Texas. During the next 47 years they produced 25-30 rodeos a year Texas and Oklahoma. They produced each of the following Texas rodeos continuously for somewhere between 20-35 years: Mabank, Hillsboro, Kuecklehan Ranch Rodeo in Bonham, Wolfe City, L.D. Bell, Teague, Athens, & Jacksonville. In 1954, Roland helped organize the C.R.A. at Stephen F. Austin Ranch and developed the first C.R.A. Rodeo. In 1955, Roland produced 13 performances for the Detroit, Michigan Rodeo. In 1957, Roland furnished stock for the Houston Stock Show and Rodeo and worked with the Tommy Steiner Family to furnish stock for several pro rodeos around Texas during that time. In the 1960’s Double R produced Fort Worth Pioneer Days Rodeo annually. Roland was a founding member of the North Texas High School Rodeo Association, which is still going strong today. In 1977 he produced the world’s largest junior rodeo, the Denton Junior Stampede. Roland, with Mary Jo at his side as rodeo secretary and timer, helped many young kids develop into talented and well-known athletes in the rodeo industry. Over the years they helped cowboy families in need out of the goodness of their heart. Almost anyone in rodeo in this area remembers Roland's bulls, or that rodeo he put on in 1972, or how Mary Jo, his wife, used to take rodeo entries out of their car. Roland was legendary to all the cowboys in his time.
In the 1970’s, Claude Reid started as a pickup man for his uncle Roland. He went on to work with Roland for the next 20 years.
