Truthfully… this video rubs me the wrong way & that probably won’t surprise you if you’ve been keeping up with my other posts on abortion. The people in this video seem to not want abortions to occur under ANY circumstance, yet also don’t want to give any individuals the right to make informed decisions about their reproductive health in regards to preventing pregnancy in the first place. It’s a catch-22.

It is necessary to have patient/doctor confidentiality from a young age. I can only imagine some parents unfortunate reactions to discovering their preteen/teenage child has become pregnant. Maybe they didn’t know their child was sexually active or was even interested in someone or they became pregnant *not* by their inability to “keep their legs closed.” I can only imagine the amount of shame some parents would shovel onto their kid for becoming pregnant for any reason. Who does that help?

If the notion of your preteen/teenage member of your household getting an abortion without your knowledge makes you uncomfortable, perhaps check your parenting style and how comfortable your child feels about sharing intimate information with you or another trusted adult. Removing choice is not the answer.

Our younger members of society need to have an increase of bodily autonomy in general. It would not surprise me if a lot of the older generation would have a problem with me stating that. Y’all are probably still hot and bothered that your grandkid or kid won’t hug you every time you ask for one. (He’s not always giving me hugs either—it’s okay, really.)

If you work in the medical field and know that performing abortions could very well be a part of your medical duty and that makes you uncomfortable, consider choosing a different aspect of the medical field! It’s not right to limit health services just because you work in a hospital of a particular faith or it goes against your personal religious belief. Nothing is more frustrating for a patient than having to shop for a doctor that will perform medically necessary procedures, be well educated in such procedures, and won’t be inhibited by place of work nor legislature in performing medically necessary procedures. Many likely won’t even know until they are in deep connection with a medical professional, require a certain procedure, and find out they can’t have that particular service there & thus have to find a different doctor and different system to accommodate. As an anecdote, I learned recently that because my OB/GYN works for a catholic healthcare system and they (as a system) don’t want women to have certain birth control options because it goes against the faiths belief, I then can’t explore that option as a preventative method of pregnancy. Is it not true that “pro-life” advocates WANT me to prevent pregnancy first before I even consider abortion? (Not saying I would but, factually, I have— more on that in a separate post.) If you want my full opinion on religion in the healthcare system, I believe it should be limited to having a member from a faith you identify with come visit you in a time of need at the hospital. All else should be outside the healthcare system. Faith should be appropriately respected, not inappropriately enforced upon patients who believe or don’t believe alike.

If you’re in your third trimester of pregnancy and learn you can still freely get an abortion and that makes you uncomfortable, then *don’t* get an abortion! It’s not complicated.

All that in mind, I encourage you to vote YES on prop 3.
Above that I encourage you to educate yourself on who and what you’re voting for. It matters.♥️
