Been practicing with my P365XL the last two months to confirm the way I apply concepts of vision and grip work on small, lighter platforms the same way they work on big, heavier ones. We see a lot of folks carrying smaller guns these days, and I want to know FOR CERTAIN that vision, grip, and trigger control - in that order - are still the things that matter most. Success, for the most part…
WITH THAT SAID, today, after running @kr_shooting_’s Joker Drill several times, I discovered a fairly consistent problem with my shooting; I could not keep my strong hand from moving the gun when I aggressively pressed the trigger across those four “suits.” If you’ve shot Kyle’s drill, you know what I’m referring to: four less-then-dime-sized targets that require a high degree of precision and three pretty quick transitions.
After wanting to never speak to Kyle again and quit shooting forever, I decided to spend 50 rounds on “Trigger Control at Speed” to diagnose whether or not my messy shooting had anything to do with my strong hand. I first saw @spectrain_nc explain this one, but I’m not sure who came up with it. What I do know is the drill has been the BEST way for me to see just how much any input from my strong hand moves the gun when working the trigger aggressively. Once you identify that input, you can start to explore your way into feeling what’s required to totally isolate your trigger finger from the rest of your hand.
Here’s what I discovered: no matter how hard I crushed this little pistol with my support hand, my strong hand still moved the gun through each trigger smash. I have not experienced this problem, this abruptly, with my bigger, heavier gun. Small, light pistol: problem. Big, heavy pistol: no problem.
SO, do vision and grip matter most? Yes, I think so. BUT, can super quiet, laser vision and the toughest support hand grip in the world POTENTIALLY mask trigger control problems? Well, after today, it feels like the answer is y
Pistol Capstone TD #1 is a wrap! 🙌🏽
Captured our last iteration of “trigger control at speed,” and it was awesome! These guys were really starting to figure this one out. Beep. Smash. What did the gun do? How did your hands feel? Repeat. The goal here is to get to a point where you’re isolating your trigger finger. We do this DRY as much as we do live. 👌🏽
If I knew how to lay a dub step jam onto this, I would. 🎵

Last night in Newton, MA, on the corner of Washington St and Harvard St, a pro-Israel protestor, Mr. Scott Hayes, was attacked while peacefully assembled with a small group on a public sidewalk. At some point during the struggle, Hayes drew his lawfully registered and concealed pistol and fired at the attacker.
The attacker was detained by the rest of the group until police and EMS arrived. The attacker was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Hayes was arrested and charged with assault & battery with a dangerous weapon (firearm).
1. Does Hayes have an argument for the use of lethal force in self-defense?
With the “reasonableness standard” in mind:
1a. Was Hayes in fear of serious bodily harm or death?
1b. Could Hayes move out of and away from that potential harm?
2. If you lawfully carry a concealed pistol regularly, should you have self-defense insurance?
3. If you lawfully carry a concealed pistol regularly, should you have some physical, technical ability to defend yourself with your hands?
Thoughtful answers only, please. This will be a very, very important case to pay attention to.

“Single Doubles.” Did I make this up? Somebody probably already has. Either way, I REALLY like this drill.
I’ve found this “doubles” variation to be a super isolated opportunity to set your grip up for success while also remaining hyper aware of how your gun is behaving and what you’re doing to affect that behavior.
Short three-hour session today to re-familiarize my brain with how to run a small gun. Turns out, when you train with principles in mind, not much changes. In fact, nothing changes.
Say what you will about @sigsauerinc, but the P365XL can bang! 🔥

Vision, grip, and a little bit of trigger control. No matter the platform, those are the things that matter, in that order. 🦾
Life’s busy. Sleep is minimal. We get it. But, you can find a way to get a few minutes of dry practice in each day. If you carry or are expected to be ready to deploy a blaster to save others, you’ve got no excuse. Make it part of your day. 👊🏽
That’s “Bad Money” playing in the background. On Apple TV. Great show. 🤣

Phenomenal weekend learning from @velox_training_group with a studly group of shooters! We continue to build one hell of a community of serious shooters and trainers here in MA. 🙌🏽
Even with Nationals coming up next week, Nick came to Massachusetts for the first time and put on one hell of a two-day clinic. Every single one of us improved and left with 6-12 months of homework. Thanks again, Nick! 📈
Crush Nationals, and we’ll see you next year, bro! 🤫

Proper structure with your support hand - guided by the support hand index finger - will give you the ability to apply more force to the pistol. Your support hand has one job… set it up for success! 🦾

In all seriousness, self-diagnosis is the KEY to getting GOOD on your own. The best teachers in this industry are going to make sure you know exactly why you’re missing. And they will be RELENTLESS about it. 🦾
Thanks for capturing this, @schneider.grs! 🤣

25 to 15 to 5 for a hit factor score. 📋
This will be one of three performance metrics we utilize at the beginning and end of our Pistol Capstone. 🦾
Very simple, yet demanding measure of where you’re at with your vision, grip, and mobility. 📈 We’re not asking every cop and EDC-er to be a CrossFit champion… but we do think you should be able to throttle up and back down across short distances. It’ll keep you alive. 🤟🏽
Nothing makes me angrier than consistently dropping the same number of points. Met my first round standard, so that was good. Still drove home mad. 😤
