Snow showers are likely tomorrow in Vermont, New Hampshire, and western Maine. These won't cause any big accumulations as they will be short lived. A cold front will move through the region on Tuesday bringing a line of snow showers/squalls to northern areas. The line of snow squalls is expected to dissipate by the afternoon as it moves south.

Another round of snow is likely on Wednesday from Vermont to Maine. This may cause some areas to get between 1-3 inches but most areas will get a coating and not much more. Very cold air will affect the region during the second half of the week.

While things could change during the week, there is the possibility of wind chills getting as low as -30 close to the Canadian border from Vermont to Maine next Friday morning.

Cold and dry conditions will prevail the next few days. There will likely be snow showers on Sunday (mostly in the mountains) and not much accumulation is expected.

Temperatures will get closer to normal after tomorrow night and maybe a little above average (mostly high temperatures). This won't prevail though as yet another wave of very cold air will move over the region in the middle of next week, resulting in temperatures being in the 20s and teens for highs and single digits to negatives for lows.

The next possibility for accumulating snow will be the 29th or 30th. It is not expected to be a kind of winter storm.

This is something that is very rare for the southeast. A winter storm is bringing heavy snow to the gulf coast states bringing several inches of snow to much of the southeast.

Blizzard warnings are in effect for southwestern Louisiana and far east Texas this morning. Winter storm warnings are in effect from east Texas to the Florida panhandle and up to eastern North Carolina.

FINAL UPDATE: I am expecting the most amount of snow to fall in the downeast region of Maine. This system is currently moving towards the region and snow showers are already ongoing in parts of Massachusetts and Connecticut.

The snow will move out before sunrise tomorrow morning. Any travel tonight into tomorrow morning will be hazardous due to snow and snow covered roads. Winter storm warnings and advisories are currently in effect (pink = warning, purple = advisory).

Very cold conditions will follow the storm system. I am expecting to see highs in the 20s and teens across the region with lows in the single digits to the negatives the next couple days. I will have more on that later.

UPDATE FOR TOMORROW NIGHT: the Euro model has bumped up the snow totals closer to the coast from Maine down to Rhode Island in the newest run. There is more certainty that these areas will get between 4-8 inches of snow.

The GFS has bumped down the totals across the region compared to yesterday, (see forecasts below). At this time, the greatest potential for the most snow will be in eastern Massachusetts into Rhode Island as between 6-8 inches are forecasted from both models.

Note that these may change again overnight tonight. Tomorrow, I will provide my snow total predictions tomorrow afternoon before the snow arrives.

Morning update: Winter storm watches have been issued from Connecticut up to Maine as heavy snow accumulating between 4-8 inches is possible. These will likely go into warnings during the day tomorrow.

I'll have another update posted this afternoon on where we are at for forecasted snow totals.

POSSIBLE HEAVY SNOW ON SUNDAY NIGHT: The GFS model has increased the snow totals since yesterday morning and now showing a more widespread, heavier snow affecting the region. Snow totals of 6-9 inches (isolated higher amounts) are in play which will result in the plows to come out.

The euro model has been consistent on snow being on the lighter side with much of the region getting in between 1-3 inches. It's difficult right now to make accurate snow total predictions due to this difference, however it may become more apparent by tomorrow afternoon what snow totals might look like.

I would get prepared for potential plowable snow now just in case the GFS ends up being more accurate (which is currently uncertain).

We have a weak storm system that will cross through tomorrow afternoon into the night. This will not be a long-lived storm system as it will be gone before sunrise Sunday morning. For areas that get snow, don't expect much (refer to the forecast below)

Another round of snow is becoming increasingly likely on Sunday night. We might have a decent chance to see higher accumulations and more widespread snow, however it is not looking like a big winter storm and snowfall will be brief (similar to this upcoming storm system).

Both models are in agreement with a weak storm system that will move over the region on Saturday to Saturday night. There is the possibility of a round of snow to move through as well on Sunday night. Not looking intense but a couple inches of snow may accumulate for areas that do get snow.

A HUGE cold snap is expected next week as the NOAA Climate Prediction Center released this outlook today. Temperatures here are expected to be in the 20s and teens for high temperatures and single digits to the negatives for low temperatures.

Near normal temperatures will not last much longer as a wave of colder air will move over the region starting on Tuesday resulting in high temperatures to be in the 20s across the board and teens in mountainous areas. This will continue until next weekend when temperatures will get slightly warmer.

Another big cold snap is expected to affect the region starting on the 20th resulting in high temperatures being in the 20s and teens again with low temperatures mostly in the single digits to the negatives in the mountains. This will continue for an extended period of time. This big plume of colder air will affect the entire country as well resulting in below average temperatures (both day and night).

I'm watching a storm system that may bring rain and snow to the region next Sunday the 19th. More on that later this week as the time gets closer.

Snow is still falling tonight. East Massachusetts to Connecticut and Rhode Island have likely overperformed on the snow today. Parts of western Maine have likely overperformed as well.

Snow showers are expected to fall in the region tomorrow. This will lead to mostly a coating to an inch with up to 2 inches possible from Vermont to Maine.

While today wasn't as cold and windy, the colder than normal air will return by next Wednesday. It will once again be mostly dry as well.

Scattered snow showers are currently going on from Maine and New Hampshire down to Rhode Island and Eastern Connecticut. These are moving south and a majority should fade out by the afternoon.

01/07/2025

UPDATE: I have looked at both the GFS and Euro models and now they are no longer showing a significant winter storm moving over the region. Both models have the system moving south of the region. There still may be snow showers on Saturday but not much else that will lead to big snow amounts

This could still change as it's only Tuesday, but it's becoming more apparent that a significant winter storm will not impact the region. The cold, dry pattern overall will continue across the region for a while as well as gusty winds up to 40-45 mph that will last until Friday.

01/06/2025

Since Saturday, the GFS model has been moving the potential winter storm for next weekend over the region or overseas and not impacting the region. It has kept changing between the two and there cannot be a precise prediction right now due to that.

The Euro model has been more consistent with no storm happening at all since yesterday. As of the time of posting, the GFS and Euro models are in disagreement. I'm watching both models closely and will make another update when necessary such as if they come in better agreement.
