‼️ Breaking News Alert ‼️

At 21:19 Wayne 911 received a call from someone in day circle regarding an armed suspect - caller states a male armed subject is standing outside with another male.

3 minutes later at 21:22 Wayne 911 received a shot spotter alert in Day Circle indicating - 11 rounds were fired - Wayne 911 also received information that there was a confirmed victim of the shooting.

The shooting victim IS conscious and alert according to officers who arrived on scene.

The victim was transported to Wayne UNC Hospital by Wayne County EMS

Nothing further to report at this time

A lot of downed tree calls, transformers blowing etc..I did hear some traffic accidents earlier ….a lot of calls for firefighters during this storm, as would be expected.

I’m not posting all of these unless they seem particularly urgent, In my opinion..

Not a whole lot of calls on the GPD side of things, but that’s good.

I am still monitoring to post the latest updates for you all.

Someone who is smarter than me, in the electrical field, can maybe answer this…

When the power is flickering what exactly is happening?

I always hear Duke Energy talking about the “smart grid” and how during storms etc somehow they can reroute power or something and have less downtime in a particular area, I don’t know, I don’t fully understand it…but I do remember them talking up that point quite often.

So is the flickering related to that “smart” rerouting, or something else entirely?

At 10:34 on 01/09/24 GPD was dispatched to the Ollies on N Spence Ave in reference to larceny - caller states a male just walked out with a few items in a GMC Acadia - unknown direction of travel - needs a report from law enforcement- nothing further

GPD en route to the area of Day circle to reports of shots fired - this was called in by probation, they heard around 5 shots, no alert has came through shot spotter but nonetheless GPD going to investigate - nothing further at this time - 12:10

At 02:14 on 01/08/24 GPD was dispatched to an address on Edgerton St regarding a welfare check - caller states his girlfriend had texted him stating she was going to commit self harm if the caller would not send her money - nothing further

At 01:49 on 01/08/24 GPD was dispatched to the Circle K on W Grantham St - caller advised that a customer came into the store pulled out a gun and showed it to the clerk. The suspect then got back into their vehicle and then left with an unknown direction of travel. Shortly thereafter, another GPD officer was patrolling the area of the Circle K on Wayne Memorial & found a vehicle that matched that description & a traffic stop was initiated - one person was detained by GPD (but doesn’t appear to have been taken downtown based on radio chatter) & the clerk was advised of the warrant process - nothing further

GPD en route to the Dollar General on N William St in reference to a shoplifting call - caller states a male and female have concealed various items inside of a tote that they are going to try to sneak out of the store - nothing further - 20:09

At 02:35 on 01/07/24 GPD was dispatched to a problematic subject on Herring St (the same herring st I posted earlier in the evening) - caller states one of the roommates is trying to beat up everyone in the home, the suspect just kicked an 80 y/o man back into his room while the caller was on the phone with dispatchers - unknown outcome of the situation once GPD arrived on scene & nothing further

At 21:05 on 01/06/24 - GPD was dispatched to the Best Western on N Spence Ave in reference to a “speak with” - caller states there is a long term guest who has a dedicated parking spot? at the hotel - apparently another vehicle has been parked in this persons designated parking spot for 4 hours. The caller doesn’t want to have to tow the vehicle - they want GPD to identify the owner & tell them to move the vehicle out of the persons “dedicated parking space” nothing further

At 18:31 on 01/06/24 - GPD was dispatched to an address on Herring St to a larceny call - caller states his roommate has taken his belongings and possibly hit the caller - nothing further at this time

I am off work & just got home and now making dinner. I am reviewing calls throughout the last 24 hours to bring you anything interesting that has occurred.

I have about 1,500 pieces of audio (not individual calls) to review, so that’ll take me an hour or two…

But be on the lookout all evening for the latest happenings!

Everyone needs to be reminded a couple of things:

1) everything I post on this page comes off of 911 dispatch calls. 911 dispatch calls are FLUID situations and are subject to change. In 99% of those cases my reporting is accurate. There’s that 1% of the time I may get something wrong and it is swiftly updated. Either a follower will point it out or I will update independently.

In the case of the mall shooting, the 911 call changed from footlocker/multiple victims to no victims and not at footlocker once officers were on scene. The post was updated within 1 minute and changed to the most recent information at hand.

In the case of today’s post. Nothing was ever mentioned of the person being apart of tent city in my official posts. I have a few reliable sources who initially told me it was a female deceased. After reviewing dispatch logs personally I can’t independently verify this so it was removed from the post pending further confirmation.

2) either you, the community, want breaking news alerts or you don’t….breaking news alerts such as a shooting, the mall shooting, a deceased person etc seem to be what you the followers like the most.

Now I generally delay a post until I know more facts but, now that the follower base is growing, when big events pop off I start to get inundated with questions, comments etc, which is fine, I enjoy helping the community, I love the messages. informing the community that is the whole point in this page. But with that, again, if you want breaking news you have to accept the caveats that come with it.

3) I will not tolerate any false statements/complaints etc. regarding my page. I will either block you, or we will go back and forth until you see that your statements are factually incorrect.
You know what you are signing up for when you follow.

Either you accept these caveats or you’ll have to get your breaking news from the newspaper days after the fact.

At 10:21 on 01/07/24 GPD was dispatched to a welfare check in the area in front of target on N Sunburst Drive near Olive Garden - upon arrival GPD officers located a person , possibly in a ditch, who was unfortunately deceased.

There is not a lot of information to update - everyone is being fairly tight lipped on the live feed.

At this time I would advise avoiding the Target Area/ Sunburst Drive due to the active nature of the crime scene.

I would like to remind everyone these reports that I bring to you are unofficial and are subject to change as more information is available.

At 15:48 on 01/06/24 GPD was dispatched to the intersection of N Williams St & Hwy 70 in reference to an area check - caller states a male subject on a green moped, shot at a license plate hanging on a tree on her property - she is now following the suspect - they eventually stopped at a residence on Stronach Ave - nothing further

At 16:23 GPD was dispatched to the Sheetz on N Spence Ave. initially reports were that it was a stabbing however after arriving on scene GPD was able to determine it was NOT a stabbing but rather a simple assault. The victim was punched in the eye & they refused EMS treatment. GPD is currently searching for the suspect in the area. Chatter is indicating they may be from tent city area.

***As of this moment there are no active threats or shooting that have occurred at this time. This is a fluid situation and facts are subject to be updated*

At 14:11 on 01/05/24 GPD was dispatched to the Tommy’s Road Walmart - multiple 911 calls were received with hysterical callers on the line, but due to a language barrier it was difficult to determine what exactly was going on - one of the callers called back and just kept saying Walmart & Shoot. - Another caller reports multiple people shooting in the parking lot of the Walmart -

Upon arrival on scene GPD officers were not able to locate any shots being fired or any people evacuating in a panicked manor - upon arriving in the parking lot everything seemed normal, people sitting on benches etc -

There was one Hispanic female who wouldn’t come out of the restroom. There is some feed chatter indicating some sort of verbal altercation may have occurred either in the parking lot or at the mobile homes across the street.

GPD officers are riding around multiple walmarts in the city to verify there are no current threats in the city.

Breaking News from a loyal follower - a vehicle appears to be on fire on I-795 In Wilson County. Not sure of the exact address but it is believed to be near the Wilson City exits off of 795!
