TATTNALL COUNTY RESIDENTS FEEL THE AFFECTS OF TROPICAL DEPRESSION CLAUDETTE:
REIDSVILLE, GA- Although southeast Georgia didn't take a direct hit from Tropical Storm Claudette, many residents in the area, ranging from Chatham County to Long County, felt the affects of Claudette as she passed through parts of the state as a tropical depression Sunday afternoon. Many experienced high wind and heavy rain, bringing down trees and power lines. Some areas also reported flash-flooding.
In Reidsville, Tattnall County, A large live oak tree, at a residence in the 200 block of Alexander Avenue, came crashing down across the road damaging a car and a pickup truck around 3 p.m. The homeowner said he heard a loud crash and thought an automobile accident had occurred. When he stepped outside to investigate he saw the tree lying across the street.
The owner of the pickup was visiting at the home during the time of the incident, the truck was parked in the driveway and received heavy damage from the fallen tree. He added that he'd recently purchased the vehicle, and that it only had a few thousand miles on it.
The tree also caused a utility pole to be snapped in two, bringing down power lines, causing power outages in the area. Luckily there were no injuries.
Emergency Crews from the Reidsville Fire Department and the Reidsville Police Department, along with city crews and Georgia Power, spent much of the afternoon removing debris and restoring electricity.
Claudette is expected to regain strength as a tropical storm Monday as it passes through the shores of North Carolina, and into the Atlantic.
