Just this past week, The Whit Staff had the pleasure of attending the College Media Association’s annual ProCon. At this conference, editors and staff members were able to learn about career development in the modern-day world of journalism. Additionally, they were able to network with various seasoned journalists, beat reporters, and lawyers, all while reinforcing their passion for storytelling. Oftentimes, in the journalism world on the college level, the number of invaluable experiences offered to students like ProCon come very few and far between. Especially for smaller universities like Rowan, if the funding isn’t available, students who spend hours on end working for their university papers do not get the opportunities that are deserved.” - The Whit Staff

“As a society, we have normalized the hustle culture. Sleepless nights and endless study hours have become a new normal for many students across the globe. Bombarded by the constant Canvas notifications and the dreams we hope to achieve, it pushes us to work harder and harder every day. As I’ve slowly become a workaholic through my time in college and more of my time gets filled with work assignments and internship applications, I have really started to appreciate the routine and mundane parts of life.”’- Katie Thorn

“In their first home game post-All-Star break, the Delaware Blue Coats beat the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in overtime by a final score of 124-121 on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Chase Fieldhouse. With the win, Delaware improved their record to 9-15 on the season. After trailing for the majority of the game, Delaware was able to mount a comeback late in the fourth quarter. Down 108-98, Delaware went on a 12-0 run with one basket by Judah Mintz giving them the lead. The Blue Coats were not able to hang on to the lead in regulation, squandering a four-point lead with just 26 seconds left. A three-pointer by Teddy Allen and free throws by Jack McVeigh forced overtime.” - Dakota Eastman, Staff Writer

Showing up to class participating in class and being engaged in your major are different things. Be as engaged as you can.’’’-Lindsey Masciangelo ()

“‘For some reason, the thought of deleting social media felt like throwing away my favorite stuffed animal. It had become a crutch in my anxious moments. Unlike my favorite stuffed animal, getting cozy on the couch and doom-scrolling Instagram never once made me feel better. It only heightened my anxiety and this gnawing feeling to be on my phone.’’’ - Paige Britt, Features Editor

“Unlike most current podcasts, ‘State House Minute” is a more short-form product, with each episode ranging from three to five minutes long. The reasoning behind this choice is due to the podcast hosts wanting to keep their listeners informed in a quick and accessible way. ‘We know people don’t always have time to read through long press releases or watch full legislative hearings, so we wanted to create something short, informative, and easy to listen to,’ Simmons said. ‘We designed State House Minute to be short because we know people are busy. This format allows listeners to quickly get the most important updates without a big time commitment. Could we do longer episodes in the future? Possibly, if there’s a topic that really warrants a deeper dive. But for now, we want to keep it punchy and to the point.’”- Assemblywoman Heather Simmons

“Rowan Softball returned home on Wednesday, Feb. 26 for the first time in 278 days, since clinching a spot in the Division III College Softball World Series. The No. 3 nationally-ranked Rowan Profs opened up against SUNY Oneonta and picked up where they left off, sweeping the doubleheader over the Red Dragons with 4-0 and 7-2 victories. McKenzie Melvin drove in the first run of the season on a bunt single to the pitcher that scored Liz McCaffrey, who opened the game with a triple. On her next at-bat, Melvin circled the bases to put the Profs up 2-0 in the third inning.” - Aidan Dougherty, Staff Writer ()

“The band Sweet Pill was formed in Philadelphia with members Zayna Youssef, vocalist, Jayce Williams, guitarist, Ryan Cullen, the bassist, Sean McCall the guitarist and backup vocalist, and Chris Kearney, the drummer. Since then the band has performed at various venues and festivals, and have been on tour. The band will also headline their first festival and perform at Vans Warped Tour this summer. Youssef is also a Rowan alumni, who found out about Creatives 230 last year. ‘It’s really cool. I wish I had it when I was at Rowan, because it’s collaborative, and it’s not your traditional sitting in a classroom kind of thing,’ said Youssef. ‘So it’s really cool to meet other people from other majors. And you know, you take what you know and put it together and make something cool’” - Zayna Youssef

“‘There is urgency, and there is agency,’ said Mann.College students, Mann believes, are a group that can bring real change. Students at the University of California, Berkeley, effectively ended the apartheid regime in South Africa through demonstrating and getting the school to divest funds from apartheid-supporting parties.‘You can do the same today, you have a voice, you have an opportunity, you have a platform to be the change you wish to see in the world,’” - Michael Mann

“‘I think that we’ve just gotten so used to feeling isolated and lonely, but this play celebrates human beings that are all fragile but coming together, and I think that’s a story that we need to tell more often,” Dr. Elisabeth Hostetter, theatre arts professor at Rowan who directed “Almost, Maine.”...‘Performances for “Almost, Maine” will continue next week, from Feb. 28 to March 2. However, those remaining performances of “Almost, Maine” are currently sold out, with a waitlist intact in the event any seats open up to the public. Rowan’s next MainStage production will be The Music Man, coming to the Tohill Theater from April 3 to April 6.”’- Dr. Elisabeth Hostetter
