As world leaders join to defend their people’s democracy, others are defending their church. Thousands of Unification Church members gathered in Seoul on Thursday to express their disappointment with what they claim is biased and unjust Japanese media coverage of their organization following the murder of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Participants claimed that while the police investigation into the shooting was still ongoing, the Japanese press demonized the Unification Church, linking it to Abe's murder and subjecting members to social persecution, which they claim was not the case.

At Cambridge University, researchers have come up with a potential new fuel source for ships. Using inspiration from photosynthesis, the researchers developed floating artificial leaves that generate clean fuels from sunlight and water.

Tests on the leaves prove that they are able to convert sunlight into fuels as efficiently as plant leaves. Some other positives for the artificial leaves are that they are a sustainable alternative to petrol, they are cheaper, and they don’t take up much space on land.

Even though the leaves will need some improvements before they are read for commercial use, researchers are hopeful they will eventually operate on a large scale in the maritime industry.

In Germany, water levels in the Rhine River, particularly in the middle and lower regions, are nearing critically low levels. As a result, the movement of important commercial barges, inter-city transport, sightseeing, and cruise ships could be impacted.

On Monday, water levels at one of the lowest points in the river near the town of Kaub hit 30 cm, which authorities say could lead to a standstill in river traffic. Already, some vessels have been unable to sail in the river and others have been able to sail but with lighter loads.

Many are concerned about how shipping will be impacted if the water levels continue to fall.
