The 2024 America’s Newspapers Trust Study reveals a decline in public confidence toward national news outlets, while local newspapers continue to be a trusted source of information for communities across the nation. Over half of Americans consider their local newspaper the most reliable news source, valuing its transparency, ethical standards, and focus on community issues.
Unlike national media, local journalists are deeply embedded in the communities they report on. They attend town hall meetings, cover school board discussions, and investigate local government, building a connection with the people they serve.
This close relationship creates a level of accountability that is often absent in national media, which can seem detached from the daily lives of its audience.
At Mainstreet Daily News & MARC Media Group, we believe that transparency plays a key role in fostering trust. The study found that 61% of Americans believe transparency is the most important factor in evaluating media trustworthiness, and more people rate local newspapers as the leaders in maintaining these standards.
This accountability is not just a matter of practice—it is essential. Local journalists are part of the communities they cover, meaning they are directly answerable to the people they report on.

As we reflect on 2024, we are filled with gratitude for the incredible journey of MARC Media Group. This year, we proudly launched two new stations – The Beach Gainesville 100.9 and RockIt 100.5 – along with WIXC 1060 in Melbourne, FL.

Mainstreet Gainesville News achieved remarkable milestones, doubling its print circulation, reaching membership goals, and launching Motor Marketplace. KGGR RADIO, our Gospel station in Dallas, TX, has been nominated by several sources for Best Gospel Station of the Year! In Orlando, The Shepherd Radio was honored by the Central Florida Christian Chamber of Commerce.

We’re deeply thankful for the new partnerships and the collaborative spirit that has fueled our growth. Our Gainesville and Dallas studios have been refreshed, and MARC Digital Solutions is expanding, allowing us to help even more businesses achieve their advertising goals online.

While 2024 brought great triumphs, it also brought the heartbreaking loss of two cherished team members. They will always be in our hearts, and we miss them deeply. ❤️ Tim 💜 Heather ❤️

Report for America has selected Mainstreet Daily News (Mainstreet Gainesville) as one of its 2025 host newsrooms, enabling expanded news coverage in Alachua County and beyond.

Since 2017, Report for America has placed 658 journalists in local newsrooms, from established outlets like the Tampa Bay Times to startups like 100 Days in Appalachia, to combat the decline of local journalism.

Report for America is now accepting applications for its 2025 journalist cohort, and we're excited to interview candidates passionate about covering education in Alachua County.
