My little Tascam DR-70D is about to get the workout of its life soon. To help me overcome the technical challenges of not having three extra hands, I will be harnessing the technology that I already own to make this project, that has grown exponentially, possible. Playing with microphones today to see if what I have on hand will deliver the sound I like.
The MXL 990 large condenser has been amazing for both vocals and instruments. The Audio-Technica AT-2021 small condenser (pencil mic) instrument mic is also good for overhead boomed interview voice. I just thought about the designed purpose and thought that I would give it a go. Finally, NUX B-6 clip on wireless system for saxophone.

The goals are to first be able to clearly hear what I am practicing and secondly to have good audio quality on any recordings I make. Nothing is simple when you have spent most of your life editing television shows. 😵‍💫

Which will be best for the practice room? 🤔

Well the original gig wrapped early but the hotel room is already paid for the next two nights. Not often that the hotel room has the space to convert into a quick video set. I have some b-roll and a talking head thing to shoot for another project as long as I have all the interview gear with me. 🎥🎬

The joystick test went very well….how did the Director phrase it? GEORGE IS A BEAST!!! 😁
I had those crosshairs locked on like a Predator drone. So I would say that I am extremely satisfied with how the upgraded joystick worked out. 😇

I finally upgraded the joystick on the Jimmy Jib. 🤗 I think the original one was slowly dying and timing was perfect in recommending the upgrade kit for Jimmy Jib from John Huffman. As you can see, I did it myself! 😃 Now off to practice with how it handles.
