Excited to project on a church built by our family!

Iotla Methodist Church will present a projected light show created by Highland Mediaworks for the community to enjoy on Sunday, Dec. 3 starting after dark. The church is located at 1173 Iotla Church Rd.

The light show will feature the church’s historic stained-glass windows in which the artistic elements are projected onto the exterior of the building. This creates a brilliant effect of feeling like you are inside the church looking at the windows close-up. Please drive by after dark or park and view the show from the Iotla Valley Elementary School.

The theme for this projection mapping light show was "Inside Out". In order to celebrate the Diocese 50th year and Saint Patrick's Cathedral being made the 'seat of the Bishop", we wanted to reach out to the community and make them feel like they were inside the sanctuary. We decided to project oversized elements from the windows and back-light the actual windows for a "jewel box" effect.

We animated light rays and rotated each window in the space to the right and also mapped out the Rectory. Then, we had the audience of the Bishop for over an hour, while he taught us all the symbols in the windows. That was awesome!

Projecting St. Patrick's Cathedral's stained glass windows onto its exterior for the Diocese 50th Anniversary in Charlotte. The windows were created by a maker who worked for Tiffany's. This was the first time in the world, stained glass has been projected onto the exterior of a church!
