I know we all want that magical shortcut or quick fix to solve all of our social media struggles. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there isn’t one.
You’re probably seeing a lot of people post that if you just use trending sounds, if you use certain hashtags, if you post every single day, or any number of things, that that is what will grow your audience.
When we only focus on ‘trends’ like these, we will run ourselves rampant, waste time, not connect to the right people, and not see the authentic growth we are looking for.
So what WILL work?
Focusing on your MESSAGING - what you actually post about - and having a STRATEGY behind it.
Here’s how you do that:
+ Know your IDEAL READER: This is KEY! When you know who you want to reach and details regarding their likes, dislikes, what they are looking for, etc., you will have everything that you need to attract and connect with the readers who are interested in your books.
+ Create content that RESONATES with your readers: When you create content that speaks to what your ideal readers are interested in, what they relate to, and how they want to feel - THAT is how you will grow. Keep it simple and straight forward.
+ Have a STRATEGY: Knowing how you’re going to connect with readers, how you’re going to nurture those connections to create community, and ultimately lead them to your book is your foundation. It doesn’t cut it to just get more “likes” and views - you have to know where you’re going to lead them once you have their attention.
Does it take some time and effort? Yes.
But it’s not complicated and it will give you the results you’re looking for.

❌ There is no “one way” to market a book
❌ What worked for one author isn’t a guarantee to work for every author
❌ And while I’m very proud of the way I teach and empower authors to simplify their book marketing, it’s not a cookie cutter process.
Because here’s the thing. EVERY AUTHOR JOURNEY IS DIFFERENT.
It takes TIME, EFFORT, and PIVOTING to create a marketing plan that will work specifically for you and your book. That doesn’t always happen overnight.
It takes time to create a strategy for where you’re at in your writing journey and how you want to show up online AND offline for your readers.

DON’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES ⤵️
Repeat after me, “I need to identify my ideal reader!” 😊
Here’s how you can get started:
💥 When you close your eyes and think about the perfect person that you want to connect with and read your book, what do they look like?
💥 This can be someone you know, a current reader/client, it can be a reflection of yourself, or it can be someone totally made up.
💥 Make this person specific with details like their age, their interests, hobbies, what kinds of books they read, who their favorite authors are. For non-fiction, think about their questions, problems, and struggles that you and your book can help them with.
💥If your ideal reader reflects yourself, that’s a great starting point! But give them a different name. One of the important parts of an ideal reader is so you can remove your author hat and slip into their shoes.
💥 If you write in multiple genres, you don’t need to create a separate ideal reader for each genre. Your ideal reader very likely reads multiple genres (much like yourself!) and will respond to your posts.
It doesn’t have to be perfect in order for you to start. You’re going to get to know this person, learn more about them, and things might change - and that’s OK! You can’t screw it up.
Get started with this and grow from there.

If you're afraid of "giving too much away" from your book before the release date, this is for you!
When I tell authors that they need to talk about their book on social media, they usually respond with...

When someone said this very thing in my comments, another author responded by saying, "I already have a ton of book ideas - why would I take an idea from someone else?"
You're not sharing a bunch of details or going too deep with it.
What I would challenge you to do is to think of descriptive words that will help spark interest. What is the "essence" of your book? What other books, movies, TV shows are similar or are in the same vein?
Don't let the fear of "what ifs" hold you back from setting up your book. 😊

Are you making this big mistake with your videos? ⤵️
Have you come across a Reel or TikTok with an author talking about their book but...the cover is backwards?
We need to make the title and book cover as easy to read and see as possible. And it’s an easy fix.
Two options are to:
- use an inverted filter when you’re recording your Reel or TikTok
- record your video using the forward facing camera
...and there you have it! 🙌🏻
It’s a detail that makes a big difference!

If I was a new author trying to market my book (or an author not seeing results), here’s what I’d do: ⤵️

💥List out goals: we need to know what to aim at in order to make a plan to reach those goals.
💥Identify my ideal reader: this is a game changer! If you’re marketing your book to everyone you’re marketing it to no one.
💥Focus on my content and content buckets: what we post about (the topics) are what set us apart from every other author. And content buckets (3-5 topics that you cycle through) make social media SO much easier.
💥Drive social media connections to sign up for my newsletter: your newsletter is your biggest asset as an author. Continuously drive your social media connections to your free newsletter incentive to grow your list.
💥Focus on strategies for what marketing phase I’m in: there are three phases of marketing (attraction, promotion, and follow-up) so focusing on strategies that fit those phases are key.
💥Plan additional book promotions through the year after the release: you have to keep talking about your book and promoting it to drive sales. Using book promo sites, limited time reduced ebook price, etc.
💥Continue to connect with readers and talk about my book: this is a continued process! Keep connecting and community building going well after your book is released!
