New thermal camera!

I’ve always wondered what areas of my shop have cold air leaking through. (or hot air during the summer)

Last week, Amazon had this Flir TG165-X for $100 off and I decided it was time to buy. As you can see, my mustache is a great insulator.

A special with the king of mustache’s. (I’m merely a prince)

My father moved down to South Carolina and we had the opportunity to meet up yesterday for some awesome seafood. I have never known him without a mustache and I’m almost 40 years old.

Second pic is the amazing tumblers, beer glass and keychains that JR from made me! Thanks again man!

Day 28 – MFM ’22 – Best Decision Yet

My new Delta Tablesaw!

I was in Mexico in December and spotted a crazy deal on this saw…unfortunately, it was local pickup only. However, an awesome friend helped me out, bought AND delivered to my house.

So many improvements over my contractor Bosch saw; a cast iron top, wider table, better dust collection, plus, the ability to use my miter sled. I’m so happy I upgraded!

Day 21 – MFM ’22 – Never-ending Project

This is definitely redoing my siding, but, I used that yesterday. (and it’s not really a “woodworking” project?)

Here’s the desk I made last year for my friends father, my very first commissioned piece with my new brand. So many problems…my 4x4 legs split after assembly, I got superglue on the power adapter, epoxy issues and I stapled the lights on the bottom in the wrong spot. (requiring a new light strip)

In the end it was finished and delivered and the surprise on his face was so worth it.

Day 20 – MFM ’22 – Note to Self

Finish a project before starting something new! I get bored with a project after it starts taking far longer than I expected. For example, my siding that I started 4-5 years ago…I really only have a few weekends of work to finish this. I’m sure my neighbors would love if I got my butt in gear.

Day 17 – MFM ’22 – Goals & Dreams

I have always wanted to own my own business. Starting something new with my wife and allowing her to resign from her stressful job has always been on my mind. Unfortunately, I have a wealth of debt that needs to be settled before I would feel comfortable leaving an awesome job that I worked so hard for.

Also, getting a new house with a larger shop (or land to build one) has always been on my radar. Like many other people on here, I have a small shop and would love to be able to fit some additional tools into my space. (CNC/Lathe/Jointer)

Lastly, YouTube! I have been dragging my feet on getting content up on my channel. I have a few projects in mind that I want to add, I just have to get my butt in gear and start building!

Day 13 – MFM ’22 – Positive Distraction

My wife has supported me from day one and even came up with my Instagram name. I knew she was the one from the first day we met back in 2015. Surprisingly, I didn’t mess it up and we got married in 2018.

Take a day or night off from the shop sometime and spend it with your loved one. Woodworking is a passion for all of us, but, never forget who is beside you offering their full support.

Day Twelve – MFM ’22 – Praise

I’m going to spin this around and praise YOU. I’m so thankful for each and everyone of you that have followed along in my woodworking journey thus far. I have had the opportunity to talk with some of you, ask/answer questions, get ideas and swap stickers. There is no better community in my opinion, everyone here strives to help each other and make this truly amazing.

Day 6 – MFM ’22 – Smarter not Harder

Did you know a 3.5” pvc pipe holds bench cookies perfectly? I kinda stumbled across this accidentally, and just trimmed the top and bottom of the pipe. Add some structure to the outside, some Starbond glue and slap a cleat on the back. (and a sticker if you wanna get fancy)

Day 1 - MFM ‘22 Who Dis?

Hello! My name is Matthew and I am a full-time IT Administrator for a large book publisher. I started my woodworking journey almost 10 years ago after buying my first house and renovating it with the help of my amazing friend Mike. We began transforming my one car garage into a workshop and building things.

In 2018, I built a Murphy bed for one of our spare bedrooms, then, a new desk, moving my office into that space. My wife and I both work from home, so having our own “work spaces” is a huge plus.

I began to share some of my work on my personal FB/IG and realized nobody really shared my passion. I asked my wife to help come up with a “mustache” themed business name and “The Wooden Mustache” was born.

In the 1.5 years since I’ve started my account, I’ve continued transforming my shop, and built a variety of different projects along the way. I’ve had the opportunity to meet and speak with a bunch of amazing makers on here, I am beyond thankful for having that. I’ve been in a few tight spots with a project before and your guidance/advice has been invaluable to help me get through whatever my issue is.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart everyone, I’m happy to be a small part of this great community!

Okay, I messed up. I poured epoxy into my letters for the Buff wedding sign, and it decided to spill out and glue to the workbench. In retrospect, I should have clamped the pieces to a scrap pieces of wood.
