Criminal Justice Update: Man Sentenced in Child Abduction and Sexual Assault Case
HALTOM CITY, TX – April 25, 2025 — A North Richland Hills man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to multiple felony charges stemming from the abduction and s*xual assault of a 12-year-old girl reported missing in January 2024.
On the evening of January 29, 2024, the Haltom City Police Department took a report of a 12-year-old runaway female juvenile who left school and was not picked up by her guardian. On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, fellow students at her school and witnesses reported things that made Haltom City Police concerned for the child's welfare. The guardian provided Officers access to the child's recent communications. Through investigation it was determined the child was picked up from the Haltom City Public Library by an unknown adult male. Once that information was gathered, our investigation began moving very quickly to locate the child. An Amber Alert was initiated, a suspect vehicle was identified, and then several locations were searched. A male suspect was located and interviewed, but the child was no longer with him. Through investigation it was determined that Yusuf True Norton, a resident of North Richland Hills, picked the child up and released her at a location in Fort Worth. The child was recovered safely later in the early morning of January 31, 2024, with the assistance of Fort Worth Police.
It was discovered that Norton had messaged and met with other minors as well. Yusuf True Norton was subsequently charged with four counts of Indecency w/Child Sexual Contact, two counts of Online Solicitation of a Minor Sexual Conduct, Possession of Child Po*******hy, Aggravated Sexual Assault of Child, and Sexual Assault of a Child. On 04/25/2025, Yusuf True Norton entered a guilty plea to Aggravated Sexual Assault of Child, a First-Degree Felony, and Indecency w/Child Sexual Contact, a Second-Degree Felony. In exchange for his plea of guilty, he was sentenced to 12 years confinement for each charge, to run concurrently, in Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division. Based on the conviction, under Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 62, Norton will have a duty to register as a s*x offender for life after he is released from custody.
At the time, Haltom City Police Department thanked North Richland Hills Police, Grapevine Police, and Fort Worth Police for their assistance in recovering the juvenile safely. We want to thank the Texas Rangers for their assistance with the initial investigation and helping identify additional victims and the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office for securing the felony convictions of the offender.
