Two recordings soon to be added to Radio Dismuke's playlist that either recently have or will soon celebrate their 100th anniversary. One is a famous song by a famous composer; the other is the only song published by a couple of unknowns from a small town in rural Arkansas.

"Beale Street Blues" George Olsen And His Music (Victor 19457-A) July 25, 1924   "Boll Weevil Blues" International Novelty Orchestra; Ed Smalle and Vernon Dalhart, vocal (Victor 19457-B) August 8, 1924   Here is a pre-microphone era record from the Edward Mitchell...

A rather diverse sampling of a few of the audio restorations that have recently been added to Radio Dismuke's playlist.

Over the past few months, I've added a lot of recordings from the 1920s decade. So, for the past couple of weeks, I have been mostly focused on adding recordings from the 1930s so that both decades continue to be well-represented in the station's format. The recordings posted at the link are some that particularly impressed me for one reason or another.

Here's a sampling of some of the recent audio restorations that have been added to Radio Dismuke's playlist. Brief information about the selections can be found following the recordings.   "Old Fashioned Love" Clyde McCoy And His Orchestra (Decca 509-A mx C 9960) ...

From the late Eddie Mitchell's record collection, a rare and very enjoyable 1924 record by a band out of Columbus, Ohio whose leader was also called Eddie Mitchell. The two recordings featured at the link also happen to be the band's entire recorded output.

From 1929 - Two recordings by George Olsen and His Music with Olsen's actress wife Ethel Shutta providing the vocal. One song comes from an early sound film that is believed to be lost. The other comes from a long-forgotten musical r***e that, despite a lot of publicity, was financially unsuccessful.

From 1925 - A fun record issued at the height of the mid-1920s Charleston craze. If you are looking for recordings that capture the decade's famous "Roaring '20s" spirit, this recording of "You Told Me To Go" should be on your list.

"You Told Me To Go" The Knickerbockers (Columbia 482-D mx 141140) October 16, 1925   "Don't Wait Too Long" Eddie Elkings And His Orchestra (Columbia 482-D mx 14114) October 7, 1925   From the Edward Mitchell collection,...

From England - Two 1923 recordings, one a jazzy cat song, the other a revival in dance tempo of a Victor Herbert composition that, in 1901, was the theme song of the 1901 Pan American Exposition World's Fair in Buffalo, N.Y., sadly best remembered as the site of President William McKinley's assassination.

"The Cat's Whiskers" Savoy Havana Band; Ramon Newton, vocal (Columbia 3340 mx A 350) October 17, 1923   "Panamericana" Savoy Havana Band (Columbia 3340 mx A 349) October 17,...

From 1928 - A hard-to-find record with two nice performances by an ensemble of Chicago-based musicians - though, sadly, the fidelity of the label's home-grown electrical recording system was below that of other companies during the period. One of the recordings features some really nice, peppy Harry Reser/Clicquot Club Eskimos banjo passages by Bill Haid, who was also the banjo player for the Coon-Sanders Nighthawks.

"Just A Sweetheart" The Black Pirates; Frank Wells, vocal (Broadway 1218-A mx 20870) circa October 1928   "Some Of These Days" The Black Pirates; Diana Dell, vocal (Broadway 1218-B mx 20822) circa August 1928   Here's...
