From 1925 - Two recordings that will turn 100 years old in a few months, including a nice "hot" version of one of the more iconic songs of the 1920s, "Charleston." But don't skip listening to the second recording as it is also enjoyable and quite charming.

From 1929 - Two recordings issued on the notorious Grey Gull Records and its subsidiary labels. The identity of the band on "In Harlem's Araby" has perplexed collectors and discographers for decades. The flip side features a song made popular in the hit 1929 talkie musical "Sunny Side Up."

"In Harlem's Araby" Dixie Devils (Van D**e 71804 B mx 3744) November 1929   "Turn On The Heat" Collegiate Jazzers (Van D**e 71804 A mx 3762) Circa November/December 1929   From the Edward Mitchell collection, here are two recordings from a 1929 Van D**e record. Van D**e was one...

From 1915 - Three ragtime era recordings featured during Radio Dismuke's recent New Year's broadcast that are too old for the 1920s and 1930s time frame of the station's daily playlist. All of these recordings will turn 110 years old this year.

Radio Dismuke will ring in the New Year in all four continental United States time zones with our 20th annual New Year's Eve broadcast.

Joining Dismuke on this year's broadcast will be guest contributors Matt From College Station and Connor from OldTimeBlues.net who will be bringing lots of fun and interesting 1920s and 1930s recordings from their respective 78 rpm and 80 rpm record collections. There is no better way to get a brand new year off to a great start than with lots of happy, jazzy and melodic vintage recordings.

The year 2025 will also mark the 100th anniversary of the year 1925. That is an important anniversary because 1925 was the year when electrical recording was introduced, i.e., recording through microphones instead of old-fashioned acoustical recording horns. So we will be including some recordings from 1925 that were made with the older and the newer technologies.

1925 is also the 110th anniversary of 1915 - so we will be including a few recordings from that year as well.

The initial airing of the program will start on New Year's Eve at 9:00 PM USA Central Time and continue until we have welcomed in the new year in all four continental United States time zones plus an additional hour or so beyond that, for a total program length of around six hours. For those who have other plans on New Year's Eve or reside in time zones where the initial broadcast occurs at odd hours, the entire program will be rebroadcast in continuous rotation throughout New Year's Day.

Two recordings soon to be added to Radio Dismuke's playlist that either recently have or will soon celebrate their 100th anniversary. One is a famous song by a famous composer; the other is the only song published by a couple of unknowns from a small town in rural Arkansas.

"Beale Street Blues" George Olsen And His Music (Victor 19457-A) July 25, 1924   "Boll Weevil Blues" International Novelty Orchestra; Ed Smalle and Vernon Dalhart, vocal (Victor 19457-B) August 8, 1924   Here is a pre-microphone era record from the Edward Mitchell...

A rather diverse sampling of a few of the audio restorations that have recently been added to Radio Dismuke's playlist.

Over the past few months, I've added a lot of recordings from the 1920s decade. So, for the past couple of weeks, I have been mostly focused on adding recordings from the 1930s so that both decades continue to be well-represented in the station's format. The recordings posted at the link are some that particularly impressed me for one reason or another.

Here's a sampling of some of the recent audio restorations that have been added to Radio Dismuke's playlist. Brief information about the selections can be found following the recordings.   "Old Fashioned Love" Clyde McCoy And His Orchestra (Decca 509-A mx C 9960) ...
