Here is a quick thought about fasting that hopefully will set someone free.
Because the Bible says in many places that God desires obedience over sacrifice (1Samuel 15:23). This means the obedience is the same but the sacrifice can change with the times and culture.
Yes in bibical times God clearly called the people to fast and to fast from food. Here the obedience is fasting the sacrifice is giving up food or in other words something you can't live without or need.
Now here is the freeing part. In today's culture in America food is plentiful and we definitely don't have to eat as much as many of us do (me included). We say and feel that we need tv, video games, social media, phones, fill in the blank.
In today's American culture the obedience is in the fasting the sacrifice would be giving up something you think you can't live without or need.
Yes fasting from food is pleasing to God but with the American culture fasting from something other than food is equally as pleasing to our Heavenly Father.
