Stump Martin has been the host of "This Week in Sports" that is known today as "Stump On Sports" for more than 30 years. The longtime Chattanooga area sports personality hosted Prep Gameday and Friday Night Football Scoreboard on ESPN Radio 105.1, the drive time show The Zone on ESPN in Chattanooga and the Stump On Sports in the A.M. Stump was also managing editor for Tennessee Football magazine,
Friday Night Football Live magazine and spent 19 years as a writer for the Chattanooga Free Press covering 6 Super Bowls, 5 World Series, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, Georgia, Georgia Tech and high school sports. Martin joined ESPN Radio at WDEF-1370 in 2005 as the host of "Stump on Sports Brunchtime", a Saturday morning show that aired from 9 am until noon weekly. He also hosted "The Drive" from 4-6 pm Monday thru Friday for two years on ESPN. The Stump On Sports television the show appears live on Friday night from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 A.M. on Comcast Cable in Chattanooga and North Georgia and Charter Cable TV in Ringgold. Stump worked for more than 18 years as a writer at the Chattanooga News Free Press and Chattanooga Times/Free Press. During that time, Stump covered the Atlanta Braves, the National Football League, college football, and local college and prep sports. Martin has covered six Super Bowls, three World Series and the 1996 Olympics. In addition, Stump was the managing editor of Varsity Sports Media's Tennessee Football Magazine, Kentucky Basketball Magazine and a commemorative Phil Fulmer magazine. In addition, he was the managing editor for Friday Night Football Tennessee magazine and a contributing writer for Fuel Baseball magazine. Stump is the publisher and part owner of www.TNVarsity.com which is the Tennessee Rivals.com High School site in Tennessee. A native of Rossville Georgia, Stump was a three-sport lettermen at Rossville High School. After high school, Stump attended Carson Newman College where he played both football and baseball. After college, Stump went on to become the Assistant Baseball Coach at The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga for two years. Stump was inducted into the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in December of 2010. He started his coaching career as a youth coach in 1968. He went on to coach his two brothers and his daughter Misty Martin, who was a two-time High School All-American and member of the Mustangs regional softball team that was the first to compete in the NSA Slowpitch and NSA Fastpitch Tournament in the same year. The Mustangs played in three ASA Gold National Tournaments and more than 25 of his former fastpitch players signed college scholarships. Never one to stay away from the ball fields, Stump now coaches the Team Nike Mustangs 13s where his grandson, Austin Taylor Chastain, is a member of the team. His team's have never had a losing record. Stump is very proud to currently be the Director of Parks and Recreation the City of East Ridge. Stump and his wife, Deb, who is a former model and co-hosts the TV show with him, still call North Georgia home.
