Update:
Christian White and Christian Turner at FloBama on Wednesday night and Tyler Jones single release party on Thursday night.

Another great week of live music offerings in the Shoals this week!

From what I know, Glyn John’s never visited the Shoals but he was an engineer on some incredible albums including the Rolling Stones (18 albums), Led Zeppelin, The Band, and The Clash to name a few.

Here his is talking about his preferred approach to recording a band in the studio. He preferred a live, organic approach as this leads to more creative interaction between musicians resulting in the magic that is sometimes lacking when music is recorded separately and then stitched together during the editing process.

While I’m not a musician, I gotta say I definitely agree with his approach having observed both types of recording on multiple occasions here in the Shoals and elsewhere.

UPDATE: Taylor Grace’s Birthday Bash, 8pm Saturday 2nd March at the Church of Sound!

Lindy Urban is playing at Bloom Winery 6-9pm Saturday 2nd March.

Another cool week of hot live music offerings in the Shoals this week! While there's fewer shows while we wait for Swampers to re-open after renovations and we may have missed a few shows, there's plenty of great live music to catch!

Need live sound and/or recording for a show? We highly recommend Nostalgia Audio LLC and its owner/lead engineer/lead tech Alex West.

Alex did the audio and recording for a band show with Lucie Tiger and Grammy-winner Gary Nichols. She was organised, dedicated, efficient and friendly. Her level of expertise with all things audio is excellent and load in and load out were done in a neat and timely manner. She delivered a Carnegie Hall sound despite working with a compact set up in a cramped space.

According to the website, Nostalgia Audio installs audio equipment for home or commercial building, runs live sound including load in and load out for venues and bands, and does tracking and mixing work in studios. Nostalgia Audio aims for the highest quality of service to satisfy each individual customers needs while staying flexible and within budget. The founder of the company, Alex has a degree in Entertainment Technology and Entertainment Business, was trained by Billy Lawson, and interned at Wishbone Recording Studios and The ESB Group.

Also on Friday night, Lucie Tiger lit up the Lava Room with her band show supported by fellow songwriter Taylor Grace plus Gary Nichols, Will McFarlane, Brad Kuhn, Justin Holder and Jamie McFarlane.

Happy Birthday to two musicians with strong links to the Shoals - Sadler Vaden and Lucie Tiger.

Sadler Vaden is well-known as the legendary guitarist and Grammy-winning member of Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. Sadler is also a songwriter and acclaimed producer, having produced the musical output of his earlier band Drivin’ N Cryin’, Morgan Wade’s ‘Reckless’ and ‘Psychopath’, and his own albums ‘Sadler Vaden’, ‘Anybody Out There’ and two live albums ‘Live At The Mercy Lounge’ and ‘Live At The High Watt’. Sadler has three Grammy nominations and two Grammy awards for ‘The Nashville Sound’ (2017) and ‘Weathervanes’ (2023).

Lucie Tiger is slowly but surely making her name in the male-dominated southern rock genre. Initially fronting her band Tiger & The Rogues for four years, Lucie went solo and hasn’t looked back. All her songs are self-penned and the first song she recorded in the Shoals, ‘Gasoline’ won Country Blues Song of the Year 2021 in Australia. Since then she has had five singles on the MusicRow Country Breakout Chart with a sixth on the way.

If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with. Spread love around, shower others with encouragement, build them up, celebrate the highs and support them through the lows. We all win when we celebrate one another. Life can be tough and our beautiful, broken world needs a whole lotta love right now. Music is love.

We caught a great concert at The Shoals Theatre last Saturday night! The opening act was a cool blues/jazz quartet that featured Ed Bisquera (keys), Bernie Bulhack (guitar), Theron Brown (drums) and Kevin McClellan (bass) and they were also joined by David Dewayne Phillips (vocals/songwriter).

The main act was Castro Coleman aka Mr. Sipp, an American blues and gospel singer, musician, songwriter and guitarist.

(Apologies for the poor photos - we were volunteering at The Shoals Theatre on the night).

Apologies for the late posting - we were up in Nashville promoting music made in Muscle Shoals (and of course, there was rain both ways and car accidents both ways making the round trip super slow)

Valentines Shmalentines. For anyone who wants to avoid Valentines Day on Wednesday, here’s three things to do during the day before you head out to catch some live music in the evening.

1. Go for a walk along the TVA trail. Take some water and snacks and listen to the birds and the sound of the singing river. Spending time in nature is good for your soul.
2. Spend some time volunteering or raising funds for a charity - we love the good folks at the Florence Lauderdale Animal Shelter, 3240 Roberson Road, Florence.
3. Take time out to have a massage - we can recommend Bluewater Spa at Killen.

There’s some live music options on Wednesday night and when that’s over, head to Wildwood Tavern for a dram or three.

This month’s Songwriters Series featured Daniel Market, Lucie Tiger, Lucas Smith and host Derrick Coffman. It’s amazing the way that listening to each artist - one song at a time - highlights the originality and authenticity of their songwriting style.

The Lava Room Songwriters Series is held the last Tuesday of every month and is definitely worth catching to enjoy an intimate showcase of local songwriters. Thank you Derek Coffman and the Lava Room for hosting this great event!

According to Billboard, US vinyl album sales hit a new peak in the week ending December. 21, with 2.055 million copies sold, based on data from Luminate.

So, December is clearly a big month for vinyl album sales. 2023’s peak marks the largest week of 2023 for vinyl albums, and the third-largest week in the modern era — since Luminate began tracking sales in 1991, with previous peaks occurring in December 2021 (2.115 million) and December 2022 (2.232 million).
