In case you missed it in the paper recently, we had several perfect cards one week in our GameDay Score Card contest. That is not uncommon. However, what was unusual is that two of those contestants also picked the exact score in the tiebreaker game. That is once in a lifetime stuff – for 2 GameDay contestants in the same week! We had to make them both winners in that situation. Article at this link.

To help those in need from recent storms, 211 has been identified as the central intake for storm relief assistance by Volunteers Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) and the Emergency Management Agency. - Be it for tree removal, food, places to shower, tarps, plastic tubs, and many other needs,
after calling 211, those in need will have a more streamlined service for assistance when affected by disaster. Unnecessary duplication of efforts are eliminated through cooperation in the four phases of disaster: Preparation, Response, Recovery, and Mitigation.
Residents who require assistance with any of these needs are encouraged to call 211, a free and confidential helpline that connects individuals with information and resources in our community. The trained specialists at 211 can provide information on available resources and assist with connecting individuals with local organizations that can provide assistance.
211 is available 24/7. The service is available in multiple languages and is accessible to individuals with disabilities.

FLORENCE UTILITIES ELECTRICITY DEPT WORKING TO RESTORE POWER
On Friday, March 23, an EF2 tornado touched down at several points in Lauderdale County leaving extensive damage to our electric system and approximately 23,000 customers were without power.
Crews began working to restore service as soon as it was safe to do so, and they plan to continue working until all the remaining customers have been reconnected (approximately 2,800 as of Tuesday morning).
Mutual aid crews from Athens Utilities, Huntsville Utilities, Muscle Shoals Electric Board, Russellville Electric Board, Scottsboro Electric Power Board, Tishomingo County Electric Power Association, and Tree Pro have joined local crews in assisting restoration efforts.
“We know power outages are incredibly inconvenient, and we are working as quickly and safely as we can to get service restored,” said Mary McDuffa, Electricity Department Manager. “We work hard to maintain a resilient distribution system, but it is difficult to prevent outages during an event like this.”
Florence Utilities has identified approximately 150 broken poles. It will be the end of next week before power can be restored to all customers.
We ask the community to stay away from downed wires or damaged electric equipment and report these situations immediately by calling 256-764-4456.
If you use a generator, never run it inside your home or garage. Plug appliances directly into the generator. Turn your electricity off at the fuse box or breaker panel in order to prevent safety problems for our workers. Additionally, remember to turn the generator off before turning your house power back on.
