The actual model is the AS350 B2 VEMD (Vehicle Engine Multifunction Display). This display features an FLI, First Limit Indicator. The computer combines three major power indicators into one easily observed display. This system limits the workload on the pilot. Rather than having to observe and monitor three separate gauges, the pilot just has to look at one. The turbine engine is a Turbomecha Arr

iel, it's an 870HP engine. The rotor system is a three bladed semi-rigid system. The main rotor hub is an innovative design made of composite materials that have no ball bearings or lubrication systems in it. The Astar B2 is one of the best platforms for aerial news coverage. Thanks to its extremely low vibration levels, the Ecureuil is an excellent choice for aerial photography, cinema or television missions. Coupled with the FLIR HD gyro stabilized camera system, Chopper 12 is a spectacular ENG (Electronic News Gathering) ship. Chopper 12 is equipped with a FLIR UltraMedia HD with an HDC-1500 Camera. The UltraMedia HD is FLIR's most powerful daylight surveillance tool. UltraMedia HD's advanced, microprocessor-controlled, gyro-stabilization provides 5-microradian stability, making solid imagery possible from greater ranges than ever before. The UltraMedia HD’s unprecedented 1140mm focal length and best in class Hi Def camera give you the news gathering edge. FLIR incorporates all the HDC-1500’s functionalities, including a digital 2X extender which effectively doubles the size of the images at the center of the shot. This effective doubling digitally increases the 84x zoom at 1140mm to 168x at 2280mm without losing any light-gathering capacity. Aside from our main camera system Chopper 12 also has an onboard talent camera mounted inside the cockpit for reporters to do live "standups". In addition, Chopper 12 carries a small "lipstick" camera mounted in the left stabilizer for promotional purposes and "bump" shots. It gives a unique view of the side of the helicopter looking from the rear forward. Chopper 12 has the ability to send live video back to the station because of an onboard microwave transmitter mounted on the bottom of the aircraft. When Chopper 12 is on scene you're guaranteed to get the latest news. Our professional crew is always hard at work keeping the chopper and its ENG equipment in tip top working order so that you can stay informed.
