Fourth Estate

Fourth Estate is George Mason University's student-run news outlet. The organization is a collaboration of Broadside and Connect2Mason.

In the early years of American history, the three branches of government were referred to as the First, Second and Third Estate of American democracy. The Fourth Estate encompassed journalism and the media which was tasked with overseeing all three branches of government and informing the public. That mission encompasses many of the ideals that George Mason outlined in the Virginia Declaration of Rights, a document that he authored.
