The concept of long-time resident, Bill Lathrop, who sees an opportunity for a platform that provides timely, objective reporting of local news, a complete directory of local business, and a way for citizens to better engage with local government - and each other. In 2020, Bill volunteered to fill a vacancy on Evansville's City Council. From that experience, the need for better reporting of local

news became even more apparent. City officials frequently note a lack of engagement by residents, while at the same time, many residents rely on Facebook for local news – where opinions replace facts and civility often takes a back seat. Bill first acquired the URL evansvilletoday.com in 2014 and has held it with the dream of building a local news and information website dedicated to the community and surrounding areas. Evansville Today is an experimental project. To succeed, it will need to adapt as those involved learn how best to serve the community.
