By Chandlor Henderson On Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, Torch editor Chandlor Henderson visited a very quiet campus. His intention was to take photos and document the campus. He found that the animals and insects living on campus are thriving. Building 18 has a new mural. And people are still utilizing the soccer fields. While most students still are not able to access the campus, it’s not completely destitute....

By: Molly Newhard Building 18 is getting a colorful facelift. Muralist Rachel Wolfe-Goldsmith’s newest piece is inspired by the late climate activist and Lakota historian LaDonna Brave Bull. Wolfe-Goldsmith said they met Brave Bull during Give Power’s solar program launch at the Standing Rock Reservation in July of 2019. Wolfe-Goldsmith pulls inspiration from a video she took of Brave Bull telling a story of the Cannonball River at the Standing Rock Reservation....

Everyone take a deep breath. We made it through week one. A lot of things have changed in our Titan community over the last year. A lot has stayed the same. One thing that has not changed is COVID-19’s ability to throw a wrench in things. To date, 700,000 Americans have died from COVID-19, making it the deadliest pandemic in American history....

Lane Community College President Margaret Hamilton announced to employees and students earlier this week that the college will make adjustments to fall term operations in response to the ongoing surge of the COVID-19 delta variant in Lane County.

“We had hoped to see many back on campus in just a few weeks, but unfortunately COVID-19 has once again interrupted plans,” said Hamilton. “The health and safety of our students and employees is a top priority, so where possible, instructors have been asked to incorporate remote instruction for at least the first half of fall term.”

EUGENE, Ore. — As an enticement for students to get their COVID-19 vaccinations, Lane Community College will give fully vaccinated students an opportunity to win $500 when they return to classes for fall term. Three hundred students will win $500 prizes, totaling $150,000. Funding for the lottery is provided by the federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.

"It’s all-hands-on-deck time," LCC President Margaret Hamilton said. "As a community, we need to get out the message that vaccinations are safe and effective. They save lives and will help turn this pandemic around."

The vaccine lottery is open to all credit and non-credit students. No application is needed. Winners will be drawn at random from registered students who upload proof of vaccination.

Fall classes at LCC start September 27. LCC will require students and employees who will be attending classes or working at any college location to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the start of the fall academic term or seek an exemption for medical, religious, or personal/philosophical reasons.

LCC requires students and employees who will be attending classes or working at any LCC location to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the start of the fall academic term (Sept. 27).

Students and employees may seek an exemption to the vaccination requirement for medical, religious, or personal/philosophical reasons. Some academic programs may have stricter vaccination requirements.

The requirement does not apply to students who are enrolled exclusively in remote instruction courses with no in-person component. However, all campus visitors must comply with current LCC masking and COVID-19 safety protocols.
