Our Story

Denton Publications Inc, now publicly known as Sun Community News & Printing (or simply The Sun), was founded in Elizabethtown, New York in 1948 by William Denton. Working out of his garage, with a small print shop and family members as his staff, Mr. Denton began publishing the Valley News. Today, from that humble beginning, the company has grown to employ a staff of over 60 dedicated professionals. We operate out of an 18,000 square foot production facility in Elizabethtown, New York and serves the region with seven targeted distribution newspapers throughout northeastern New York State along with a quarterly lifestyle magazine; North Country Living Magazine. Despite the steady growth of our company we still operate under some very simple guidelines; quality work, personalized customer service and fair pricing. Through our vibrant print products delivered free via the US Postal Service to over 63,000 homes in the region, and our online offerings; website, mobile and social media, we are able to provide the valuable, ultra-local hometown news from our communities and make that information available world wide. Our distribution news network is no longer based on a weekly cycle but active 24 hours a day, seven days a week. While many community news organizations have reduced their services over the past few years, Sun Community News continues to expand and provide new opportunities to local businesses to market their goods and services. Sun Community News is committed to the economic health of the region and is constantly providing new methods for local businesses to reach their customers with nationally acclaimed products like North Country Living Magazine, front page sticky notes and other unique services designed to serve both reader and advertiser alike. Aside from our news products, our northern office in Plattsburgh also manages the largest digital LED billboard, in one of the most heavily traffic intersections in the city. In addition to our community publications, we are also the region's largest commercial web printer. Our printing plant is capable of everything imaginable in a cold set printing environment. The production department is anchored by a highly skilled staff working with a 17 unit Goss Community Press and the associated equipment that allows us to fulfill a wide variety of printing needs. We now offer a full array of digital design services, full color digital printing, mailing and delivery services to meet the needs of our loyal customers. The real secret to the long term success of our firm continues to be the quality and experience of our staff. Our employee contributions to the United Way of the Adirondack Region ranks annually among the top 20 firms in the three county region proving our commitment goes well beyond self. Regardless of the task, the hours or the difficulty of the job, our dedicated team really does make the difference. Many firms make that claim; we hope you'll have an opportunity to learn first hand why we are so proud of the team we've assembled and why our customers repeatedly sing their praises. They truly are the very best and we are extremely proud of every one of them! In closing, please allow me to extend a warm invitation to tour our facilities or to further discuss the use of our resources to enhance your opportunities in our region.
