Two Women Arrested After Winterhaven Disturbance

The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance in the Winterhaven area on Sunday evening, resulting in the arrest of two women.

-Miranda Anastasia Laurenzana, 34, was booked into county jail on multiple charges, including battery against a police officer, battery causing serious injury, resisting arrest, and making criminal threats with intent to terrorize.
-Marie Gabrielle Solorio, 25, was also arrested and charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injury.

Authorities have not yet released details on who was injured in the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.

Calipatria City Council to Review Lithium Valley Plan and 4th of July Event 🇺🇸

The Calipatria City Council will meet on Tuesday evening, beginning with a Closed Session at 5:30 p.m., followed by Open Session at 6:00 p.m.

Tanker Truck Overturns, Spilling Diesel Fuel on SR-78 (Brawley)

A tanker truck overturned Monday afternoon, spilling diesel fuel onto State Route 78 near Osborne Park Road around 5:22 p.m.. The incident led to one-way traffic control as HazMat teams worked to clean up the spill.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Motorists in the area experienced delays until the scene was fully cleared.

CHP Investigates Late-Night Rollover Near Winterhaven

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a rollover accident that occurred late Friday night near Winterhaven. Around 11:15 p.m., a Cadillac traveling westbound on Interstate 8 lost control and rolled over.

According to a witness, the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed before the crash. One individual sustained minor injuries in the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that Driving Under the Influence (DUI) may have been a contributing factor.

The investigation is ongoing as CHP works to confirm the cause of the crash.

Imperial Valley to Heat Up This Week 🌞

The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that the Imperial Valley will experience warm, dry, and calm weather this week. A strong high-pressure system is building over the Desert Southwest, pushing temperatures into the 90s by Tuesday—well above seasonal averages.

Looking ahead:

➡️Overnight lows will remain in the mid to upper 50s.
➡️Light winds are expected throughout the week.
➡️By the first weekend of the California Mid-Winter Fair, a couple of mostly dry weather systems may brush through the area, potentially bringing minor changes but no significant rain.

Traffic Stop Leads to Recovery of Missing Child in Imperial County 🚓👶

An Imperial County Sheriff's Deputy successfully located a missing juvenile during a traffic stop at Coachella Canal Road and Beal Road. The deputy identified a vehicle matching an Arizona missing juvenile alert and initiated the stop.

The missing child was found inside the vehicle and was confirmed to be in stable condition. Authorities immediately contacted Child Protective Services in both California and Arizona, ensuring the juvenile’s safety. The child was transferred to Imperial County CPS, and the mother was promptly notified.

This swift action highlights the importance of interstate cooperation and vigilance in child safety cases.

Vehicle Rolls Over on Interstate 8 Near Winterhaven 🚨

Around 9 a.m. Friday, a vehicle traveling eastbound on I-8, just west of Winterhaven Drive, veered off the road and rolled over, coming to rest on its side in a ditch, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver was initially unable to exit the vehicle, prompting a response from the Imperial County Fire Department. While the driver reported no apparent injuries, an ambulance was dispatched as a precaution.

Witnesses reported seeing a group of vehicles traveling together, noting that the car drifted off the road without slowing down before rolling over. The CHP is continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident.

City of Imperial Installs Speed Bumps for Community Safety

The City of Imperial has implemented new speed bumps and additional traffic-calming measures on Smokewood Avenue at the intersections of Sequoia Street and Sagebrush Street.

According to the Imperial Police Department, these changes aim to enhance safety for the community, especially for students and families near TL Waggoner School. Officials hope the speed bumps will encourage drivers to slow down and be more mindful of pedestrians in the area.

🚨 Brawley Police to Hold DUI Checkpoint Tonight 🚨

The Brawley Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint tonight, Friday, from 7:00 PM to midnight in the 200 block of Main Street.

The checkpoint location was chosen based on data showing areas with frequent impaired driving incidents. The primary goal is to enhance public safety by identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road.

This initiative is funded by a grant from the California Highway Patrol Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program.

Paraglider Falls to Death Near Sea Garden Avenue (Near Salton City)

A paragliding accident on Tuesday afternoon tragically resulted in the death of an unidentified man. The incident occurred around 4:30 PM near Sea Garden Avenue when, for unknown reasons, the man fell from approximately 80 feet in the air.

Despite immediate emergency first aid, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Imperial County Sheriff's Office has notified both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) about the incident. The County Coroner’s Office is currently leading the local investigation to determine the exact cause of the fall.
