I just learned that an actor I worked with in the 1990s died 5 years ago.

John Townsend died unexpectedly at age 60.

He was a theatre critic, playwright, director and actor. He starred in my 10-part audio drama series, "Each Turn," and in my short film, "Reception Party," that I wrote and produced as part of a live show called "Video Etudes, Volume II."

In my short film, "Half a Man," he plays a servant at a cocktail party we shot in The Landmark Center in St. Paul. In one scene -- my director's cameo -- he grabs me and physically ejects me from the party.

He wrote theatre reviews for Lavender Magazine in Minneapolis, and for the months we worked on "Each Turn," he would often take me to the dress rehearsals of plays all over town.

The Olson Invitational Golf Tournament was started by my brother Steve and our Uncle David in 1970. Cousin Jeff Scott Olson is keeping it alive, and I'm hoping the next generation will keep it alive after us.
