A dry layer in our atmosphere has kept us dry through the morning hours with those up north already receiving a pretty good helping of snow with more moisture available.

Because of this dry layer sticking around longer than I expected, I think our totals will now range from 0.25” to 2” in La Crosse. 😔

Those that have been missing the snow this winter season have something to look forward to tomorrow with light to moderate snow showers. This will begin in the morning hours of Saturday through the afternoon.

Impacts from this snowstorm will be mainly north of La Crosse. However, roads can become partially to fully covered at times.

Those looking to shovel their driveway won't have too much trouble, as the snow is expected to be very fluffy.

Tonight, there are slippery roads in northeast Iowa, southwest Wisconsin with freezing fog/drizzle. You can see some areas with this in the visibility map. Now, there is a winter weather advisory for our southern counties until midnight tonight.

For La Crosse, we continue to be dry , but we might get some light snow/wintry mix early Thursday morning. If there is any precipitation impacts and accumulation would be minimal.

Mild and dry weather might be taking a back seat with more chances for snow as well as lows possibly dipping back in the negatives.

Here is the updated Climate Prediction Center temperature and precipitation outlook, as well as our drought monitor. As you can see, cold and wetter weather is being forecasted into the middle of February.

The upper-level Jet Stream will continue to feed Colorado Lows into our region, bringing more chances for snow. Coinciding with this, plenty of moisture will be available for possibly higher accumulations.

While we have more chances for snow, we'll also have the possibility of having very cold air. Early projections have highs in the single digits and lows in the negatives.

Some roads will be slippery tonight with light snow, a wintry mix, and possible freezing drizzle. Better chances for a glaze of ice will be along and south of I-90, with a higher possibility of snow showers towards I-94. Our low overnight is 23°.

After tonight's precipitation chances, Thursday is mostly sunny and very windy with gusts up to 40+ mph. Because of the breeze, wind chills will be between 10° to 20° despite us having a high of 31°.

The next main weather event we are tracking is Saturday's snow. Models are still projecting a decent amount of accumulations in our area.

Tomorrow, we'll get our next chance for snow. This will begin as early as Wednesday afternoon, but better chances are during the evening hours. Our precipitation will be snow with a wintry mix and freezing drizzle at times.

While accumulations aren't expected to be high, there may be slippery stretches on roads due to a glaze of ice possible.

Welcome to our first week of February! As we began the new month over the weekend, we've started out with just a drizzle while other areas north got some snow.

Tonight, we drop into the single digits with highs in the low 20s for Tuesday. Wednesday at 32° is our next chance for precipitation. There are chances for snow with up to an inch of accumulation. However, we are more likely to experience a wintry mix with a possibility of freezing drizzle.

La Crosse broke two records for the month of January, with the lowest amount of snowfall and precipitation on record.

While we stayed dry through the month, our mix of warm and cool days brought us to near seasonable highs and lows.

A bit of a breeze this evening will decrease overnight with a low of 22°. Saturday is cooler than today, though well above average at 35°. Towards the afternoon and evening hours of Saturday, we are expecting a Low Pressure System to move through western Wisconsin.

Chances for snow are mainly along and north of I-94, but some of this will trickle down into the Coulee Region. Because temperatures are near or above freezing Saturday into Sunday, we'll have minimal accumulations with rain and/or snow. However, Monday morning will have more chances for snow and impacts to roads.

Here is a look at the updated Climate Prediction Center temperature and precipitation outlooks, as well as our drought monitor map.

Slightly below average temperatures are scheduled to be here in the first couple of weeks of February. This will be met with near or above average precipitation which is much needed with us still abnormally dry. The forecast for cooler temps and more precipitation does align with what models are projecting.

As you can see, our upper level jet will allow Low Pressure Systems to project right into or below Wisconsin. That would allow us to have more opportunities for snow, especially with a system to our south. This setup would also give the opportunity for moisture to reach us and help snow become heavier.

The GFS model has us at almost 10" by the middle of February. As models aren't the best after around 4-5 days, we shouldn't use this as a means to say how much we are in for by then, but rather another tool to show we are in for more chances for snow in the future.

La Crosse was able to destroy the record high today, as we reached 58°. Not only was this the daily record high, but also the warmest day in January that we have ever had. Many other areas across Western Wisconsin had a new record with today's warmth.

Tonight's low is at 30° before a mild Friday at 45°. This weekend, we are still tracking precipitation chances. Recent models are trending towards minimal impacts.

It was just as sunny today as it was yesterday with not as breezy winds. Tonight stays clear for a low of 28°. Tomorrow has our next potential for a record high temperature. We are forecasted to hit 52°, which would easily break the record of 48°.

For the rest of the week into the weekend, we'll get a mix of 30s and 40s with a few chances for rain and/or snow.

We were able to set a new record high temperature today as we reached 54°. While we had record warmth, we had gusty winds of up to 30+ mph. Tonight, we cool to 29° for a low temperature. Winds will stay breezy overnight into Wednesday morning.

Wednesday hits the upper 30s, low 40s. Thursday is looking to break the record high temperature. Enjoy that warmth because by the end of the week, we'll have more seasonable temperatures with chances for snow.
