At a meeting Tuesday, Councilmember Erik Altmann moved to legally challenge Proposal One, claiming that the language of the measure is ambiguous and could cause problems down the road.

Eight Lansing-area businesses are donating more than $182,000 this year to support the commission’s work promoting equality and social justice. The Day of Celebration Luncheon is scheduled for 11 a.m. on January 20 at the Lansing Center.

City Manager Robert Belleman says the current City Hall building off Abbot Road has a number of issues including a lack of natural light and inadequate space for public meetings and election activities. The building was constructed in 1965.
During the East Lansing City Council’s meeting, Robert Belleman said they could decide to fix up the space, move to an existing building or even construct a new City Hall.

The city of Lansing has been awarded a $1 million grant to develop a plan to build a cap over I-496 that would reconnect a community that became isolated by construction of the highway with the rest of the city.
The construction of I-496 in Lansing in the 1960s led to the destruction of more than 800 homes and businesses in a majority Black neighborhood.

The Broadway musical "Shucked" comes to East Lansing next week for eight performances, and there will be one mid-Michigan native helping make the show happen behind the scenes. Cornball humor is its main selling point. It might remind you of the old TV variety series "Hee Haw."
The Tony Award-nominated musical Shucked is part of the Wharton Center's Broadway schedule.

MSU Broadcasting Services touches the lives of more than a half-million mid-Michigan residents each week, and shapes the educational experience of Michigan State University's 40,000-plus student body.
MSU Broadcasting Services is part of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and is headquartered with offices and studios in the Communication Arts and Sciences Building on the southwest part of the MSU Campus.
WKAR-TV, broadcasting on channel 23, is mid-Michigan's Public Television station. The station produces original shows about state and local issues and broadcasts a diverse schedule of programs from PBS and other sources. WKAR-TV broadcasts in high definition and stereo, with closed captions for the hearing-impaired. Descriptive Video Service (DVS), which describes visual action for the sight-impaired, is also provided when available.
WKAR-TV broadcasts a three-channel multicast of programming via digital channel 40. WKAR (23.1) features a mix of performance, drama, science, news and daytime children's television from PBS and other trusted sources of quality TV programming. WKAR World (23.2) explores all facets of our world, from history and geography to documentary and public affairs, along with encores of favorite WKAR programs. WKAR Create (23.3) features how-to and lifestyles programs.
MSU's digital television station began broadcasting on January 15, 2004. The three-channel multicast launched on November 4, 2007.
