This week we passed a pretty major milestone: for the first time ever, one billion people visited Facebook in a single day. Dustin always used to say that this day would come, and that it would happen sooner than anyone thought. I will confess that I thought he was crazy at the time, or at least that his imagination was bigger than mine.
I am proud that Facebook today has the same belief that it did almost ten years ago when I joined: technology should be about bringing the world closer together. Though the work’s changed quite a bit — what used to be helping Michigan State students plan parties is now about delivering a proper experience on 2G, a legit Burmese translation, crazy streaming video infrastructure, autonomous drones to beam down internet, virtual reality -- they are all connected by the same wonderful idea.
It’s been a wild ride to get here and I couldn’t be more excited about connecting the next billion. Thank you to Mark, to our community, and to everyone over the years who’s helped to scale Facebook into what it is today.
