Wednesday afternoon traffic on Interstate 95 came to a slowdown just south of the bridge at exit 65. A piece of construction equipment caught fire during transport. Godwin-Falcon Fire Rescue and Wade Community Fire Departments responded to the scene. Fire suppression operations were conducted and was able to keep the damage/ fire to the hydraulic oil compartment.
No injuries were reported.
2 additional accidents were reported in the residual traffic backups.
Just before 11:30 pm: Wade Fire Department and Godwin-Falcon Fire Departments responded to the area of the 63-mile marker of Interstate 95 northbound in reference to a vehicle crash and vehicle fire. Upon arrival the firefighters located am 18-wheeler that had crashed into the Jersey Barriers in the work zone and the cab of the truck was fully involved. Additional fire units were requested to the scene. The driver was not harmed.
I-95 Semi vs dump truck 68 mile marker
Godwin, NC (Cumberland County), Sunday morning just after midnight Godwin-Falcon Fire Rescue, Wade Community Fire, Eastover Fire, Vander Fire, and Dunn Emergency Services responded to the 68-mile marker northbound for a vehicle crash. Upon arrival the firefighters located a Chevrolet Dump Truck and an 18-wheeler had collided in the work zone. The impact from the collision caused the dump truck to rollover and come to rest on the Jersey barrier. The semi continued further down the road before coming to rest in the right lane. The dump truck driver was laying in the roadway possibly ejected during the rollover. The semi driver was pinned inside the vehicle. I-95 Northbound was closed to all vehicle traffic for over 2 hours. NCSHP is the investigating agency and stated that the dump truck became disabled in the roadway, and with it being in the work zone, there was nowhere to pull off the road which contributed to the crash.
Johnston County, NC (Four Oaks), A 2 vehicle crash sent 3 occupants to the hospital with serious injuries at the intersection of Packing Plant Road and Black Creek Road. Upon arrival the responders located the crash with one vehicle overturned on the shoulder of the road. Four Oaks Fire Department and Johnston County EMS provided life-saving measures. One driver and an occupant was transported by ground and the other driver by Duke Life Flight. NCSHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
