Yesterday, I participated in the memorial ride to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, which was a wonderful experience. I express my heartfelt gratitude to all service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Thank you also to my fellow veterans who have served and those who continue to serve today.

Check out my Memorial Day Weekend Forecast!
Saturday: A lot of sunshine and weak winds with temperatures rising into the upper 60's.
Sunday: Temperatures will rise into the 60's once again but we are looking at widespread rain showers that will last into Monday morning.
Memorial Day: The morning will see some lingering showers from the day prior but by around noon the showers should become extremely isolated leaving many with plenty of sunshine on Memorial Day.
I will be participating in the memorial motorcycle ride in Bismarck starting at The Shop on Memorial Day! The Briefing for the ride starts at 10:30am with the ride starting at 11am. It will finish at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. I will also stay there for the ceremony that starts at noon! I hope to see fellow veterans, family, and North Dakotans out there as well!
We have a cell heading into Kenmare right now that has the potential to be carrying large hail. Now would be a good time to keep family and pets indoors and bring cars into covered areas.

Showers are already starting to develop this afternoon in western portions of North Dakota and Eastern Montana.
Around 2-4PM CDT we will start to see thunderstorm development in western North Dakota. As the system continues to develop into the later hours we will have the potential see SEVERE quarter size hail in isolated cells ahead of the cold front making its way into North Dakota. Once the front is in central ND, in the later evening hours we have a greater risk of SEVERE winds up to 70MPH from collapsing thunderstorms.
Make sure to follow the #KXStormTeam Members KX News Meteorologist Kenny Miller , Meteorologist Stone Schafer , and Meteorologist Hunter Binstock KX News to catch the latest developments on the system this afternoon.
Today will remain relatively cloudy across much of North Dakota.
As we look ahead to later this week we have two more days of potential thunderstorms for Thursday and Friday.
In your week ahead we have 3 systems making their way into or near North Dakota and Montana.
The FIRST system is making it's way through Montana right now a with a warm front that will enter North Dakota later this evening. as this system continues east, it will eventually drape its cold front across central North Dakota bringing a thunderstorm chance along its active portion. This system will eventually exit eastern North Dakota early Wednesday Morning.
The resulting moisture from the first system will leave us with lingering moisture and a small chance for scattered rain on Wednesday.
For the SECOND system, as we get into Thursday we have the potential to see the trailing edge of a cold front originating in Canada bringing another chance of showers and thunderstorms.
The THIRD system is a low that has the potential to cross northern North Dakota with a wave paired up with it. This system closely follows in the wake of the cold front the day prior. Which will bring even more moisture and chances for thunderstorms on Friday.
As these later systems continue to get closer the #KXStormTeam will continue to re-evaluate our forecasts as these systems may change paths in the future.

Looks like another active afternoon outside of North Dakota. There will be thunderstorms developing later this afternoon in Kansas and Nebraska. If you have friends or family in Eastern potions of either of these states there is a high chance of SEVERE WEATHER to include large hail and isolated tornadic activity.

There are minor chances for mixed precipitation this weekend.
Right now it is looking more like a rain event. Surface temperatures have the potential to stay above freezing with the freezing layer occurring 1500-4000 feet above the surface. This layer of warmer air could prevent any snow that does form aloft from reaching the surface in a frozen state. To add to this same point a majority of the moisture in the atmosphere on Sunday will be maintained below what is called the snow growth zone. This is an area defined by -10C to -20C where ice crystals can form and grow. Due to these factors we are looking at some potentially very cold rain on Sunday.
As we get closer to the rain event the models may change and bring that freezing layer down lower than 1500 feet. If that does occur we could potentially see some freezing precipitation on metal surfaces and bridges. The majority of surfaces however shouldn't see much of, if any accumulations of ice.
Overall there isn't a large amount of moisture available during this period with total precipitation accumulations falling between a quarter to a half inch of liquid precipitation.
Once again for the weekend we have multiple systems influencing North Dakota over the weekend.
Thursday-Friday: The first system will come tonight and will be in the state until tomorrow afternoon. This system will be characterized with rain/freezing rain conditions for areas south of highway 200. Ice accumulations during this period should be around 0.1" with isolated areas having the potential to see more. North of highway 200 there is a greater chance of snow all the way up through the Canadian border regions. Snow accumulations will generally be from trace to 3" with areas to the far far north and in southern Canada having the potential to see 5".
Saturday-Monday: A secondary low will be making its way though the Rockies this weekend and is currently taking a southerly track across Nebraska. The secondary low will bring moisture to only the most southern regions of the state on Sunday morning from the leading edge of this low. As this system makes its way across Colorado and into Nebraska the moisture will advect further north potentially reaching areas closer to I-94.
As of this time the second low is tracking a slightly more southerly path. Due to this it is greatly reducing snowfall potential over Easter. Right now snow accumulations look to be from trace to 1" with areas closest to South Dakota having a greater potential to see 2".
Because of how far out the secondary system still is there is still potential for the upper level pattern to change and bring it back further north. As conditions continue to evolve we will keep you up to date with the latest information.

KX Live Weather 03/21
KX Storm Team member, Meteorologist Hunter Binstock KX News, Takes a look at the snow for today and the weekend.
The models for the weekend system are starting to increase total snowfall potential. The differences between the ECWMF and the GFS are quite dramatic. With that in mind we have updated areas across North Dakota that have a high potential to see 8+ INCHES of snow over the weekend. Stay up to date with the #KXStormTeam!
