We are heartbroken at the passing of our road brother, hero, and friend Joe Bonsall of the mighty Oak Ridge Boys.
The first time we opened for the Oaks was in 1984 at the Swiss Villa Amphitheater in Lampe, MO—and we couldn’t believe that we were getting to open the show for some true legends—and heroes. Joe was the first person to come over and say hey to us—and went of his way to make us feel at home. He always did.
A couple of years later, we recorded a song that featured Joe singing with us—“Out Going Cattin.” He even spent two days in New York City with us filming the video for that song. And even during the hectic chaos of the shoot, Joe never lost his sense of humor—and thanks to him, we didn’t lose ours either.
It was always a joy to see Joe. His enthusiasm for music and for life was contagious.
It would be an understatement to say that we love that guy—and we always will.
Our prayers go out to Mary and the family—as well as to Duane, William Lee, and Richard, who have lost a true brother.
If you hear some Oak Ridge Boys blaring from our houses today, you’ll know we’re remembering and celebrating our buddy.
God bless you, Joe!

Our unusually warm winter came to an abrupt end, after spending 283 consecutive days above zero. Now, we're facing dangerous cold and wind chill conditions over the weekend. Be prepared if you're planning any travel. Take along some extra warm clothing.
Mid-week next week, we'll be starting to climb out of the sub-zero weather, and the last few weeks of January we'll likely return to the above-normal, 20's above weather we've been enjoying.
But in the meantime, stay warm!

Wind chills are dangerously cold this morning, with most locations across western and central North Dakota in the 30s below zero, with some spots in the 40s below zero. Conditions will worsen this weekend, with even colder wind chills and the potential for significant blowing snow. Make sure to be dressed for the weather before heading out the door today, and stay up to date with the forecast!

We were warned earlier this week that this would be a long-duration storm event, and no, it's not over yet! As the storm moves east, it is circling around and will bring another 3-8 inches of snowfall to eastern North Dakota. This time, we'll have some strong winds with it, gusting up to 45 mph, which will likely create blizzard conditions.
This storm system stretches from North Dakota to Florida, and by the time it's over, will have affected all the lower 48 states.
Stay tuned to your Radioworks stations for updates, road conditions and cancellations and closures.

Gusty northerly winds ramp up early Thursday morning and with new and falling snow, will introduce blowing snow and near blizzard conditions, especially across open country west of the Red River Valley. Difficult travel conditions are once again anticipated.

A Pacific low storm system is beginning to affect the region, first with freezing rain. Snow and strong winds are to follow over the next two days. The Devils Lake area can expect 5-8" of new snow.
This is a massive storm system and will affect a good portion of the lower 48 states throughout the week, spanning from Texas to Canada.
Be prepared for hazardous travel conditions, heavy snow and ice through Thursday morning.

Baby, it's Cold Outside! New record low for Devils Lake at -27° at 7:00 this morning, surpassing our old record low of -23° in 1917.
But...hang on, because we'll likely see a 50°+ temperature swing in just a few days, and we could be in thawing territory by Monday.

Nashville, Tenn. (November 8, 2022) — Jeff Cook, founding member and legendary guitarist of the supergroup ALABAMA, has died. Cook, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Musicians Hall of Fame, Fiddlers Hall of Fame and Gibson's Guitarist of the Year, passed away peacefully yesterday, November 7, with his family and close friends by his side at his beach home in Destin, Florida. He was 73. The multi-award winning guitarist was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2012. Cook was a champion in all he attempted and he courageously faced his battle with a positive attitude.

Jeffrey Alan Cook was born in Fort Payne, Alabama on August 27, 1949. He began playing lead guitar and keyboards in bands at the age of 13. Securing a broadcast license only three days after his 14th birthday, Cook went to work as a disc jockey at a local Fort Payne radio station. The broadcast bug had entered his blood and later resulted in him owning radio and TV stations. After graduating from Fort Payne High School, Cook received a degree in Electronic Technology from Gadsden State Community College in Gadsden, Alabama and was named “Outstanding Alumni” by the American Association of Community Colleges. Cook loved that radio combined two of his favorite things, music and electronics.

One of Cook’s lifelong dreams came true with the construction of Cook Sound Studios and his home, “Cook Castle,” based in Fort Payne. The studio was a way for him to help musicians share their music with others. Outside of music, one of his favorite hobbies was bass fishing. He was proud to be an official “Fishing Ambassador” to the state of Alabama, as proclaimed by five Governors.

Cook is credited for introducing the electric double neck guitar to country music. He was also an accomplished musician with the ability to play piano, guitar, fiddle, bass guitar, banjo, mandolin and anything else thrown in front of him.

He married the love of his life, Lisa Williams, on June 9, 1995. The Cooks resided in “Cook Castle” atop Lookout Mountain in Fort Payne, AL, Guntersville, AL and Destin/Miramar Beach, FL.

As a member of ALABAMA, Cook enjoyed one of the most successful careers in country music history. Over 50 years ago, Cook, along with cousins Teddy Gentry and Randy Owen, left Fort Payne to spend the summer playing music in a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina bar called The Bowery. It took Cook, Gentry and Owen six long years of tip jars and word-of-mouth to earn the major label deal they’d been dreaming of. Then, seemingly no time at all to change the face of country music forever. Cook's iconic guitar licks, unique fiddle style, exceptional vocals and harmony, along with his bandmates, went on to sell 80 million albums and charted 43 No. 1 hits, becoming the biggest group in the history of the country genre.

Due to Cook’s health battle, he ceased touring with ALABAMA in 2018. With his encouragement and well wishes, ALABAMA went on because Cook never wanted “the music to stop or the party to end.”

With his profound desire to help others, The Jeff and Lisa Cook Foundation was formed along with The Jeff and Lisa Cook Children's Home to house orphaned children worldwide, starting in the Philippines.

Cook is survived by his wife of 27 years Lisa Cook, beloved puppies Blazer and Blakely, his mother Betty Cook, his brother David Cook, Crystal Cook, his father-in-law Jerrial Williams, his brother-in-law Randy Williams and many nieces and nephews. Cook was pre-deceased by his father James Cook and his mother-in-law, JoAnn Williams.

Jeffrey Alan Cook will always be thankful for his loving family, many close friends and especially... his FANS.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to THE JEFF AND LISA COOK FOUNDATION:

P.O. BOX 680067, Fort Payne, AL 35968 or through the foundation website: thejeffandlisacookfoundation.org

Arrangements for Cook's “Celebration of Life” will be announced at a later date.

The first winter storm of the season will be arriving late Wednesday through early Friday. Tracking is uncertain at this time, but if it takes more of a Northerly path, much of ND will be affected, with heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions. If it's a more Southern track, which is looking more likely, Southeast ND and Western MN will be hit the hardest. Either way, the Devils Lake area will likely be impacted to some degree, and travel may be hazardous. We'll Keep you updated with all the changing conditions.

The latest guidance is in for the winter storm later this week. Confidence is increasing across portions of south central and southeastern North Dakota. This includes the southern portion of the James River Valley. Check back for more updates.

A measure in front of the Devils Lake School District voters to issue 32 million dollars in bonds to construct a new middle school and an addition to Prairie View Elementary School was soundly defeated in Tuesday’s vote. The measure needed a super-majority of 60% to pass, and only 47% voted to approve. Also, another measure on the ballot, to increase the debt limit for the school district also failed to pass, with only 45% approving. More than 2,200 ballots were cast in the special election.
