Moscow 1 Year Later - Honoring the lives of X**a Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves and Maddie Mogen

It was emotional in Moscow tonight. Hundreds of students gathered for a university vigil to share stories and memories of four Vandals whose deaths touched people around the world.

This community is slowly healing. There was tremendous strength and maturity shown by the people who on behalf of each victim during the vigil. I hope they continue to lean on one another as we wait for justice to be served.

Nearly three years since the Babb Road fire destroyed the towns of Malden and Pine City, Tuesday, the community came together to celebrate the first shovels in on a new building.

The building is set to house a new post office, fire station and town hall. Tuesday was a monumental first step of a new future for a town that lost everything.

Sunday just before 4 p.m., the Bonner Co. Sheriff's Office told me a plane crashed into Priest Lake at Cavanaugh Bay in Coolin, ID. Two adults and one young boy were on board. All were hospitalized, but BCSO said the injuries are non-life threatening.

The plane, still sitting in the lake, caught the attention of plenty of lake-goers Monday. BCSO said the plane will stay where it is until the FAA and NTSB conclude their investigations of the crash. It's reported that the plane is not leaking fuel into the water.

It took nearly a year and a half to bring a homeless encampment in the east central neighborhood to a close.

At one point, over 600 people lived on the state-owned land.

One month ago, the final camper moved out and plans for land restoration began. Neighbors are reflecting on their first 30 days of living without the camp down the street.

Kohberger arraignment today at Latah County courthouse. Plenty of local and national media still around following the early morning court appearance.

Trial scheduled to begin Oct. 2 and expected to last 6 weeks.

We were all expecting to see Bryan Kohberger back in court in June.

Following a grand jury indictment last week, the public will be seeing the murder suspect earlier than expected. Monday, he's scheduled for his arraignment hearing at the Latah County courthouse at 9AM.

I spoke to people in the community about what life in Moscow has looked like since the suspect's last court appearance in January.

Students Demand Action branch leader Gabriel Kelly said House Bill 1240 will allow students to focus on what's important and feel safer at school.

HB1240 would ban what lawmakers define as "assault weapons." It passed through the House and Senate, with amendments. Friday, the House ruled at least one of the amendments fell outside of the scope of the bill. It now goes back to the Senate for further review and action.

The future of the bill is in the hands of state lawmakers, but Kelly and Students Demand Action are celebrating the strides Washington is making toward a safer state and country for all.

Hundreds of train cars run through Spokane every day. But what happens when just one of those cars go off track?

I spoke to a local locomotive engineer and the Washington State Department of Ecology to add some perspective to the train derailments, making national headlines.

The Washington State Department of Transportation reports the homeless encampment off of I-90 continues to shrink.

According to WSDOT, the camp is down 13 people from its last count in February. Now, only an estimated 65 people still live on the state-owned land.

I spoke with Julie Garcia of Jewels Helping Hands to talk about the progress and final steps of closing the camp. We also talked about how the potential closure of the Cannon St. shelter could impact her organization and the rest of the city.

Aspen Heights Pullman was supposed to be done in August before the school year began. A one month delay eventually turned in eight. Now, property managers are telling tenants to find new housing -- they are being released of their lease agreements.

I spoke to the mother of a WSU parent who said her sophomore was excited to move in to Aspen Heights with her friends. She walks me through the last months of headache, frustration and disappointment.

WSU told me affected students should contact the Dean of Students.

Tonight’s Gonzaga basketball game means the end of the “Timme Time” era. This will be Drew Timme’s final time playing a home game in The Kennel.

This man has made a serious name for himself in the program. Fans will remember his gameplay and signature 'stache for years to come. Fans today told me how they're celebrating the All-Star Zag and his future beyond GU.

A major development in one of the biggest stories in the country right now. Yesterday, a suspect was identified and arrested in connection to the Moscow murder investigation.

One and a half months ago, four University of Idaho students were murdered. Yesterday, law enforcement officials arrested 28-year-old Bryan Kohberger in Monroe Co., Pennsylvania.

Following his arrest, KREM2 investigators worked to uncover more of who Bryan Kohberger is. Here's what we know now.

**Kohberger was arrested in Chestnut Hill Township, a 15 minute drive from Albrightsville, PA. Not 40 as mentioned.

Another in the books! I was stationed out at the Spokane Co Elections Office to cover ballot numbers and election security.

By the end of the day, more than half of all 360,000 Spokane Co registered voters had returned their ballots!

I’ve learned to love elections. Last night’s Election Day had me reminiscing on the last election I covered, back in Nov 2020. I started my day at 3AM with Boone Co voters in Columbia, MO for KOMU 8 News and ended my day producing national coverage for my CNBC Markets and Politics internship.

In the midst of President Joe Biden expressing disapproval for the University of Idaho's abortion and birth control guidelines, I sat down with UC Davis law professor Mary Ziegler about the constitutionality of the policies.

KREM2 was the only station to sit down with family members of Ablos Kios, the 22-year-old man who was shot and killed in Franklin Park. The shooting happened in the early morning hours of August 27.

Yesterday, he was laid to rest by his loved ones. Ahead of his funeral, I sat down with one of Kios' relatives about the life he lived and impact he had on those around him.

At the end of last month, a jury and a judge found former Spokane police officer Nathan Nash guilty of two counts of r**e.

I followed this trial since it began and I was there in the courtroom when the verdicts came in. Later on in shows, I had sound from Nash's defense attorney with his reaction to the verdicts.

It was that time of year again where the Lands Council invites the public to participate in its annual city-wide Spokane River clean up.

I spoke with just a few of the hundreds of volunteers who chose to spend their Saturdays cleaning up one of Spokane's most well-known natural resources.

A drive-by shooting in north Spokane Sunday put a Spokane police officer in the hospital in serious condition. The two suspects were arrested and yesterday, we learned that officer was discharged from the hospital.

This officer-involved shooting closed 4 neighborhood blocks for at least 8 hours. Monday, I wondered how people in the community viewed this incident. So I went into the neighborhood to get reactions from homeowners.

Big shout out to my photog Dave Somers who was the biggest help on this shoot!! Thanks to him, I was really able to focus on laying out each of the neighbors’ stories to showcase the thoughts before, during and after the incident.

Over the weekend, Prohibition Gastropub honored an industry friend in need. Owner Michael Wiley said he doesn’t know Katelyn Corigliano personally, but because she’s a bartender in Spokane, she’s “family.”

That’s why on Sunday, the proceeds from two featured menu items went to Katie while she recovers from the injuries she received during the drive-by shooting outside Lucky’s Pub.
