"I am not one to blame those who want to transform their photos into Studio Ghibli’s style. On the contrary, I am someone who adores beauty and recognizes its magic, and I would be delighted to see my picture drawn in that enchanting style that captivates hearts. But all my anger—every bit of it—is directed at this digital intruder: artificial intelligence…
This cold, artificial creature that ruthlessly intrudes upon creativity.
It is the blind imitator that leaves nothing untouched in its attempt to copy, stripping everything of its brilliance. It disregards the effort of artists who have poured their souls and emotions into their craft, only for AI to come along with its frightening mechanism—like an ostrich burying its head in the sand—reducing their art to mere lines of code. It thinks it creates art, but it produces only pale shadows. It practices what I call cold forgery, a lifeless imitation of an art form that cannot be reduced to soulless algorithms. This is a blatant violation of their efforts, a complete disregard for their hard work and artistry!
As the brilliant artist and founder of Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki, painfully puts it:
“If people want to do something this repulsive, let them. But I do not want this technology associated with my work at all. It is a tremendous insult to life itself! I feel that we are approaching the end of times, that we humans are losing control over ourselves.”
Honest words from you, Miyazaki. Unfortunately, we are indeed approaching the digital abyss, where the boundaries between genuine creativity and cold replication are fading. We now see artificial repetition devoid of human touch everywhere and in every field… Art is turning into nothing but a sequence of codes… And emotions are being reduced to mere mathematical equations."
