We just completed a video talking about our favorite astronomy accessory for our big binoculars- the iOptron HAZ31 "Go-to" mount- that will automatically point you to any object in the sky!
https://youtu.be/9BYa_iUeQgU
We love the iOptron HAZ31 strain wave go-to mount for our big binoculars. With it’s 32 channel GPS receiver, it can locate the binocular and guide it to anything in the sky. That’s why it’s a “Go To” mount- type in the moon or Saturn and it will go directly to it. If you are into time lapse astro-photography, this mount will track objects to get you perfect long exposures.
You can also use it manually to point and move the binocular for earth bound viewing.
We talk about the advantages of using their iOptron 12V lithium-ion power bank battery pack so as to have one less cord to manage, and how to set it up. Make sure you have our Oberwerk Mini-Pier installed so the setup won’t bump your binocular on the tripod. We also like the Vixen-style dovetail plate with safety stop to attach your binocular to the head to prevent slipping.
Our made in America TR-3 hardwood tripods make a beautiful mount for your HAZ31, easily handling the weight. The best part of this new head is that unlike the older iOptron AZ-pro mount- this one doesn’t require counterweights, making it easier to take out in the field.
You can also use this mount with telescopes, but, we’d only recommend that for you if you’re a one-eyed pirate.

This video is from a customer in Australia. He used a Novagrade Smartphone Adapter to capture video through the eyepiece of his Oberwerk BT-100XL-SD. It shows what you can expect to see when viewing 7 km away.

The iOptron AZ Pro mount has a 33-lb. weight capacity, it handles the huge 24.5 lb. Oberwerk BT-127XL-SD (5" triplet APO) with ease.

Scam Alert! Have you seen the ads for the "10-300x40mm Super Telephoto Zoom Monocular Telescope"?
https://oberwerk.com/10-300x40mm-super-telephoto-telescope/

One of the biggest scams we’ve ever seen in the optics biz was the “Rated #1 Best Nightvision High Powered Waterproof Binoculars” promoted on Facebook. But recent ads for a “4K 10-300x40mm Super Telephoto Zoom Monocular Telescope”, also on Facebook, take fraudulent advertising to a whole n...

Is it "a binocular" or "a pair of binoculars"?
Here at Oberwerk, you'll never hear us use the phrase "a pair of binoculars"- unless we're talking about a 10×42 Sport ED for yourself and an 8×42 Sport ED for your spouse. Apparently there are some dissenting opinions about this. In fact the Oxford Dictionary says the word “binocular” doesn’t even exist in singular form! It only exists in a plural form, along with bellows, forceps, gallows, glasses, pliers, scissors, shears, and tongs. We strongly disagree! All the other words in that list are objects that are comprised of two parts that work together, such as the two halves of a pliers or scissors. We’d add “pants”, or "pair of pants" to that list. But the “bi” in the word binocular means “two”- in this case “two oculars” (ocular is another word for eyepiece). It’s no different than the word “bicycle”, which means “two wheels”. We don’t ride “a pair of bicycles”, we ride a bicycle. We don’t view the night sky or go bird-watching with “a pair of binoculars”, we use a binocular. OK all you linguists out there- are we incorrect?

The new Oberwerk PM1 parallelogram binocular mount, combined with our TR3 maple tripod, is unlike anything else on the market. The high quality, smooth motion, and great looks are unmatched by any other parallelogram mount. Besides making night sky observation much more comfortable, the PM1 provides a 3-foot range of eyepiece height, without loss of target (great for sharing the view with kids). When observing the night sky, your perfectly-balanced binocular simply “floats” in front of you, while you effortlessly steer it in any direction using the included Oberwerk 5000 fluid head with dual panning handles. The combined PM1/TR3 height range allows viewing directly overhead while standing, or near ground level from a reclining lawn chair. It’s also ideal for viewing from a wheelchair. For more info-

The Oberwerk 15×70 LW has been ranked #2 on the Ezvid Wiki 2019 Best Astronomy Binoculars list. From the Ezvid Wiki website- “Compiled with forty-five hours of research, this newly published Wiki in their binocular & scope category is a broad-ranging, impartial assessment of astronomy binocular options available to consumers in the United States”.

The most expensive binocular on the list, the $769 Celestron Echelon 20×70, was the #1 choice. Of course we’re very pleased that our much-more-affordable 15×70 LW was ranked #2. But frankly, we don’t agree with some of their methodology and ranking criteria. For example, for two competitor’s binoculars on the list, Ezvid Wiki notes that “they may arrive with collimation or alignment problems”- yet they still somehow made the Top 10 list? While we proudly proclaim that Oberwerk binoculars are the most perfectly-collimated binoculars on the market, this was not mentioned as an attribute of the 15×70. We understand that they probably had a price cap for the models tested. But to put together of list of “The Best”, without mentioning our ground-breaking XL Series binocular telescopes? Perhaps it should be titled “Best Astronomy Binoculars Under $1000”- but even then, it would be an oversight to ignore our highly-regarded Deluxe and Ultra Series models. Maybe next time…

Currently, the best astronomy binocular is the Celestron Echelon 20 x 70. Wiki researchers have been writing reviews of the latest astronomy binoculars since 2017.
