The first episode of this podcast will tell the story of a beautiful 3 year old girl from Kentucky named Alexa Raley.
police arrested 40-year-old Shila Raley, of Parksville Kentucky for the June 2014 murder of her step granddaughter, 3-year-old Alexa K. Raley. An autopsy found that the girl died of blunt force trauma to her abdomen and torso.
Social service workers had been involved for a dozen years with the family, dating back to multiple complaints involving the step-grandmother, Shila Ison Raley, and her own children before Alexa was born
Beging in 2002 the Boyle County offices of Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services were involved with Shila Raley 19 times. Most of the referrals were based on allegations of child neglect, though accusations of physical and sexual child abuse, domestic violence and drug abuse are also part of her history with the state Cabinet of Health and Family Services.
Three later complaints involved suspected abuse of young Alexa, including one instance where she suffered a broken leg about six months before her death. That injury was reported to the cabinet as possible child abuse after Alexa said she had been pushed down the stairs by Ms. Raley, but it was not investigated, according to the cabinet files.
