Talk about your “what if” moments. What a shock. Johnny D. Dalton and I briefly played in bands together, once with WISH and VINTAGE. Playing the Festival in the Park was always fun. We rehearsed the same songs over and over till they were perfect. He wanted to “change the world” with his music. He a great ear for tone, played guitar loud and drummed hard just because he could, and was a perfectionist getting his parts right. I was honored he let me record and perform on a song or two with his band TON, two sonically massive albums. We got together 3 years ago and put together a fictitious band we called “City Of Stone”, wrote the song “She Don’t Mind If I Rock and Roll”, and Derrick Gunnell recorded it at Ratatat Sounds Recording Studio. John played drums (insisted on setting up every cymbal we could find), played bass, rhythm, we split the lead guitar, and screamed his head off at the end with “She Don’t Mind!!” He made his mark in music and will be missed. We wrote another song titled “Boom Town”, but never recorded it. Perhaps I can record it in honor of Johnny Lightning!
