Important Update: City of Danbury Water Department Implements Smart Watering and Irrigation Policy

As extreme heat becomes more common each summer, managing the use of irrigation systems is critical for proper water system operations. During the irrigation season, the Danbury Water Department (DWD) is issuing the following smart watering and irrigation policy to safeguard the City’s water system and ensure that adequate flows are always available for Danbury customers and for public safety including firefighting use.

The Danbury Water Department requires that all properties with automatic irrigation sprinkler systems use a “Twice-Weekly Sprinkler Irrigation Schedule” and that the times of use be set for Sunday & Wednesday OR Saturday & Tuesday from 12 AM to 10 AM or 6 PM to Midnight. We ask that you do not water when it is raining or from 10 AM to 6 PM as water evaporation loss is high due to midday heat.

Unless otherwise specifically directed by the Danbury Water Department, the following irrigation system schedule shall be followed:

The DWD will monitor irrigation system use. If there's an irrigation need outside of this schedule, please contact the Water Department to show up and discuss this need.

The 23rd Annual Brazilian Flag Raising Ceremony took place today at Danbury City Hall honoring the 200th year of Brazil's Independence. Mayor Dean Esposito and Consulate General of Brazil in Hartford, Ambassador Fernando Mello Vidal, delivered remarks and honored members of the Brazilian community. Celia Bacelar-Palmares, publisher and founder of Tribuna Newspaper and President and founder of The New American Dream Foundation was honored for her dedication to the Brazilian Community in Danbury over nearly 30 years. She was honored as “Mayor for a Day”. Abby Ribeiro, Director of Client Support Services at The Center for Empowerment & Education (formerly known as the Women's center) provides prevention, crisis intervention, and support services regarding domestic violence, sexual assault, and other major life transitions. She was recognized for her community service. Eduardo Santos Braga is an entrepreneur, and owner of Menino Market, LLC, which opened in 2019 at 49 South Street, and Menino Market II, in 2021, at 290 White Street. When most businesses were struggling during the pandemic, Eduardo was able to grow his business. He was recognized for his business success.
