Brad BRINGER OF LIGHT -
"Thanks for having me and thanks for the opportunity to gain a tremendous amount of exposure. I’ve been a member of TXMC for a while now and I’ve found many friends, contributors, bands I dig and true metal lovers. Really appreciate it. Here’s a quick teaser for the latest release, in case anyone wants a QUICK TASTE: https://youtu.be/ZQKIVblFiI4."

"I’ve been in many projects over the last 10 or 12 years – usually some flavor of metal, usually on vocals… but Also bits of reggae and a kid’s music project as well… with those I lean more towards guitar, songwriting, and production. I’ve wanted to get a Deathcore-type project out there for a handful of years, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to join a group as vocalist or if I wanted to focus more on the guitar end. Eventually, I heard a killer EDM track, 'FROM LIQUID' by Mr.kitty, AND I thought 'Whoa – this song is amazing and I think I want to pay tribute to it and do a one-off deathcore cover.'… So, I did. I found a couple guys in the DFW music scene, one I’ve known for years and used to play shows with back in Florida – one on drums, one on vocals, and I played guitar/bass/synth and added some backing vocals and production. I believe that was in 2020. It was a lot of fun and I really liked how it turned out, so I wrote a few songs and asked the same two guys to participate. We did that for a little while and, you know, life can get in the way sometimes. They both had other projects going on and eventually I needed to forge ahead. The latest release is just me. I sat on an ep for about a year before deciding it was too good to keep waiting. So, I just outsourced the drum tracks and did everything else myself. I’ve been the vocalist in so many bands, I was reluctant to write lyrics or record vocals, but it only took about two weeks once I got started. Fortunately, this is my best work. Songwriting, performance, and production. I’m really proud of it."
Where is the bands city now?
BRAD -
"DFW! More specifically, Denton County."
Who are the current members and what instruments do they play?
BRAD -
"It’s just me at the moment."
What Genre / Sub-genre would you classify yourselves as?
BRAD -
"Originally, I just said it’s 'deathcore-ish with some melodic vocals here and there,' however, some early reviews called it American Industrial Deathcore – and honestly, I think that’s a pretty good fit. I don’t try to cram in as much of the orchestration as a lot of the current deathcore mainstays, I prefer to have orchestral and electronic stuff – but more on the industrial side of things. I really like the guitars and drums to pack a punch, so a lot of those extras are just that, extra."
How did the band name come about?
BRAD -
"Honestly, I think the first place I heard the term 'BRINGER OF LIGHT' it was a biblical reference. Book of Genesis if I’m not mistaken. I like to fuse a lot of elements from all over the musical spectrum into this music – some stuff that many deathcore bands wouldn’t want to add – and something about the name was interesting to me. As I researched its origins, I learned that there are scholars out there that argue the accepted interpretation is wrong. Regardless of what was truly meant in the bible, depending on who you ask, it means Lucifer, the bringer of knowledge, or Jesus. That seems like quite a blend of beliefs, right? Again, regardless of the validity, I just thought, 'wow… you can’t really get two more opposite views' and loved the dichotomy of it. I had the vague image of an iconic logo somehow incorporating a triangle (the 'strongest' shape, structurally speaking) and a circle."
How would you describe the music you typically create?
BRAD -
"What are some of the band's influences? Well, for years, I’ve been a huge fan of Fear Factory. I think I have been trying to get Dino’s tone and picking technique since I was like, 20. I’ve been trying to get closer to that really tight kick/snare/guitar percussive synergy and production. I think my internal dialogue when thinking about what I wanted the end product to sound like was 'What if Fear Factory were a modern deathcore band?' And I have to tell you, when you listen to the latest release, 'Anthology I' you’ll probably hear exactly that. I think my other favorite band that gets most of my listening time since about 2019 is Cattle Decapitation. I really, really like the last three albums or so. Add in some Acacia Strain and Thy Art is Murder-type stuff, and boom – you get something like Bringer of Light. I’m actually a studio-only project for the moment. I write and record out of my home studio (TBOLT STUDIOS) and I’ve always been of the thinking that if there’s enough interest, maybe I’ll get some dudes together and play live. I’ve talked with some buddies in Eyes of Ares about partnering up to make a live show work – we’ve just never fully committed to it. Everyone’s busy – work, kids, yada yada. Or, we get in a room and start working on new s**t, not practicing the existing s**t. Also, now that I’m doing vocals, I don’t really know exactly what I would do live. For this project, I would really rather focus on guitar and maybe backing vocs live, but that would mean needing to find someone to train up on parts that I wrote and recorded, which can sometimes be a challenge. Not that the parts are extraordinarily difficult, but a lot of guys want to do their own thing. I get both sides of the coin. I’ve been in both positions before."
Can you tell me more about any recent or upcoming releases?
BRAD -
"Yes! I love this release. It’s on all the platforms. This is about half of a group of songs I wrote in late 2021. I love finding hidden connections everywhere. I love concept albums. The prior ep, 'Dexter…and the Code of Harry' was a 3-song piece diving into the series and character of Dexter, the serial killer. From there, I wanted to branch out a little bigger with a similar concept. Enter 'Anthology'. So now, the themes are from TV, Video Games, Books, children’s shows, etc. (Soprano’s, Dexter New Blood, Cocomelon and HALO for this release). Timewise, it worked out really well and I was able to release my favorite part of my catalog on my 40th birthday. Felt good! On the upcoming 'Anthology II' which will continue the trend, I have a few guys in TX deathcore bands lined up split some vocal work and I’ve even had a conversation with Burton C Bell, formerly vocalist of Fear Factory, to join me on a song. Looking forward to getting more traction there soon."
“117” - This song starts with a cool little tapping part that is just ultra melodic. Moves into some very mean riffs and the theme is based on the Halo franchise. I’ve been a huge fan of Halo, games, books, you name it. I used a lot of the deep lore in the lyrics - including conversations between the different species.
I also included an odd musical turn mid-song and recorded a very clean harmonized vocal melody - probably the best vocal harmony I’ve ever written or performed if I’m being honest. It was one of those times where you’re like “F**k, what goes here, what goes here?” and you just try something. I did that and upon listen back I was just like “holy s**t - that’s it… wait, I hear more…” and went in for the layered harmony. I really like that part and I’m way too proud of it for how short and insignificant it really is.
“Saints of Newark” - I purchased my first 8 string from Harley Benton to test it out, and the opening riff to this song was just the first thing I played on that guitar. I thought it was quirky and odd, but once fully produced and mixed with drums and bass, it sounded straight up violent. I noodled for a while on what theme I could use for just sheer violence and brutality without going down the traditional death metal gore route. So, I landed on Sopranos. There’s a lot of brutal content between the series and the recent prequal. Just some brutal stuff. I ended up having a buddy of mine, Scott, from Eyes of Ares sit in with me on some production stuff - he put in this simple keyboard part under that intro riff, which inspired me to layer a few harmonized clean vocals under it. Just turned out really well. This one has some strong Fear Factory vibes.
“New Blood Headcanon” - This track features some simple but hooky and mean guitar riffs. The lyrical content pretty much came from a place of frustration and hope. I liked a lot of the new Dexter series, “New Blood”... but I didn’t love what they did in the final few minutes. Felt like a waste. However, it could be saved. I have this head canon about what could be done in season two and I thought - “ok, I’ll pay homage to my homie Mike, who did vocals on the first EP about Dexter by continuing the story here, in my own way”.
So basically, I like the idea that Dexter’s son lied to him and was hunting him from the start. Harrison needed to gain Dexter’s trust, but inside, he’s got a dark passenger of his own, Trinity Killer. And Trinity tells him to kill his mom and hunt his dad down for being “bad people”. I would love to see a season two where all of that is revealed and the saga continues.
"COCOMELON". These kids shows… they want to watch them a million times. This song was written about the earworms getting in your head! Also, my son tried to say "bah bah black sheep" but it was coming out as "bah bah bishhhhh", and I just liked that and thought it should go in the song.
Is there anything you would like to say to your fellow musicians coming on board the metal genre?
BRAD -
"Great question. Make sure you have your finances in order (try to land a decent career) just in case you aren’t the next Metallica. Don’t make risky financial decisions. Try to learn your tone and how to improve it early. It’s not always about what equipment you have."

"Also, if you like Fear Factory, Dino has been amazing to me. He helped me find one of his signature guitars that was completely sold out across the globe. Then, he was cool enough to do this: Dino says..."
THANKS BRINGER OF LIGHT.
