1PM LAKE EFFECT SNOW UPDATE
Our anticipated band of lake effect snow is pushing south into northeastern Illinois on cue, but it's less than impressive with a minimal amount of "lift" present within it. As a result, there is some snow, but there's also freezing drizzle where there's lack of snow formation up in the clouds due to an inversion. All science aside, I'm still expecting this to become better organized over the next few hours as it heads south. Locally we've seen a secondary band of very light snow develop here in the Region. There is some light freezing drizzle also mixing in at times, so anything untreated may slicken up--so careful on those sideways etc.
We'll continue to update you as we watch this lake snow band move our way. The latest HRRR model run puts a half foot of snow in Lake County (Indiana) as the band stalls later this evening. We're still thinking a few inches are possible where it sets up--but that's a noticeable change in the models this afternoon! Doesn't mean it's right--but we'll need to pay attention.
