STOKED to introduce Logan Kasper to the Stoke Podcast. Logan just won the Unbound XL which is 350 miles of unreal gravel roads. He completed it in 22 hours and 54 minutes. Logan and I dove into the race, publicity, and his mindset. Something super cool about his journey was the approach he took to certain things that may have been conceived as bad, or time consuming; but Logan took adversity in the light of optimism. Mud, not a problem because he found a solution, train stoppage, great it’s time to eat. This kind of approach he embodied won him the race, no doubt. During our conversation, there wasn’t anything we discussed that indicated he was having a s**tty time. He explained, “it was a vacation, so I’m going to enjoy it.” And that he did.

Matt Annabel doesn’t just ride his bike for the fun of it, he rides to overcome adversity. He recently just won the Pinyon and Pines 500 mile bike packing race in Northern Arizona. Matt and the other riders didn’t have it easy on this year's race. There were multiple rain storms that seemed to have lasted 2-3 days, which resulted in a downpour on the landscape making it “death” mud. Matt didn’t only have to overcome the down pours, he also broke a crank and had to scooter his bike 20 miles to the nearest bike shop in Camp Verde. After some help from local trail angels, Matt was able to get a crank and start pedaling. Through all of the help and support, he was determined to peddle through the night to spread his gratitude for his family and support.

New Episode Out!!!!!

On this episode of the Stoke Podcast I’m honored to introduce , a professional cyclist, founder of Tandem Tutoring, coach to young cyclists, Prescott local, overall badass. With everything she is taking on, she recently took 5th overall in the Whiskey 50 which is a HUGE accomplishment after racing the Sea Otter Classic the weekend before. We discuss mental block, mindset, and trusting the process. Her instagram post explains it best “(Wo)man vs. Self. I’ve seen a lot of growth this year, not only in my fitness but in my confidence as well. Last weekend at the in Prescott my first lap was nearly 3 minutes faster than last year! It’s the improvements like this that put a smile on my face. No more “I’m just a math teacher.” Help me welcome Erin Osborne!

NEW EPISODE!!!!
and I talk about TRAINING in today's episode. This conversation is super important, because no matter what level you are at, any kind of training is good training. Whether you have a race on the schedule, bike packing adventure, or you just want to boost your overall fitness, this is the episode for you. We dive into heart rate zones, power meters, FTP (functional threshold power) and nutrition on the bike. As shown below, we are not coaches, but professional athletes who implement a strict training plan, so any type of riding is good.  I wish I heard this conversation 3 years ago, because I had no idea how to train, or take care of my fitness. Just like Chad, I would go balls to the wall everyday, then hit a wall for three days and feel like s**t and repeat the cycle. It has taken a few years to understand how my body likes to train, and with the help from Stokehaus coaching, I have a plan based on my racing goals. No matter where you are right now fitness wise, I hope you can take away some good information from Chad and I.
IMPORTANT: We are not coaches, or licensed to give any advice on any training techniques. We are professional athletes who train on a daily basis, and give advice on the mistakes we have made in the past.

and describe their epic 400 mile bike packing race. Although this is a solo effort, these two had no idea they would meet, and ride almost 300 miles together through Southern California. Listening to these two describing their "cat and mouse" chase with each other with almost no sleep tired me out. These two didn't wait for each-other, it was drop and catch for almost 300 miles of this race. Think about that. Imagine you are 200 miles into a race and continue to put in efforts to catch a little blinking light in front of you over and over and over again. You catch them, then ride with them, then dropping them, then getting caught again for more than 40 hours. Just that alone hurts my brain.

The Stage Coach 400 is an iconic route that brings together Southern California's diverse ecosystem. Bring together Desert, Mountains, and Ocean with roughly 374 miles of earth to cover (if you don't go off course). Do you get help with this race? Only from yourself. This is a self-supported solo event. More details on the course below.

just completed the Grand Traverse which is one of the craziest races ever. This back country ski race stretches across harsh Colorado tundra, high peaks, and brisk temperatures. He started at 12am, and began his journey in the darkness of the Crested Butte Valley. Ian explains his experience and how amazing it truly was. On the outside, it might seem extreme, or maybe crazy. But to Ian, it was an experience that will stay with him forever. Follow along on this self-supported journey through the darkness of winter on ski's.

On this episode of the Stoke Podcast, and I discuss what it takes to become a professional cyclist and the sacrifices you have to make in order to perform at the highest level. Him and I connect on a lot of levels in regards to being new Dads, so we covered Dad stuff. We also dive into Chad's conflicts with alcohol and how he has shifted his lifestyle in a direction towards sobriety, health and family. On top of everything he accomplishes during a day, he started a Charity called Biking for Blindness. Chad states in one of his posts "Part of being a champion isn't just being great at something, it's knowing when to give back.”

The Mountain Cog Podcast and I collaborated to bring both of our audiences a conversation that will hook your attention. On this episode I got the opportunity to tell my story about transitioning towards professional racing, my background on extreme sports and my experience being a new father. It was super fun talking to Josh and Mike about how they started the Mountain Cog Podcast. They have a unique approach on the topics they cover and I love their episodes. Josh and Mike have been riding bikes longer than I have been alive. Their modo is "Two mountain bike enthusiasts chat with people who love bikes. From everyday riders. To industry folk. And everyone in between." Time to listen, and time to ride.
