Rex Jr. and I (Roger W. Morgan) grew up as "cousins". His Dad, Rex Sr. was my Godfather. My dad, rodeo announcer Mel Lambert and Rex Sr. were best friends and I spent many wonderful times as a child in the company of Rex Sr. When I got into radio, Rex offered great advice that I've returned to frequently as I built my own nearly 7 decade broadcast career. There were several "singing cowboys" in my childhood, but Rex was always the all time BEST. As a child, I knew Rex Jr. as "Chico". An all around Good Guy with the gift of that famous Rex Allen voice. Happy Birthday, Chico!!

Let's end the rumors...I didn't "check out"...I haven't retired...THE LEGEND wasn't SOLD. So, what's the deal? I haven't been on the air since Wednesday afternoon. I'm nursing a severe case of laryngitis. This has happened very rarely in my entire career and I've finally learned the source of this malady. I'm a BIG FAN of Hawaiian Punch. As I recall those rare cases of laryngitis, I seem to remember binge drinking Hawaiian Punch. What's the critical ingredient? A heavy amount of citrus acid! Check it out..." bathing your vocal cords in citric acid can bring about repeated 'throat clearing' and severe laryngitis". Now you know...I'm a BINGE DRINKER!! I'll soon attend an HP Anonymous session or two and I'll put it behind me forever! It’s the NATIONAL DAY OF THE COWBOY and my fascination started at an early age when my cowboy dad, rodeo announcer Mel Lambert put me in front of rodeo crowds as a child trickroper. That experience put me in the company of celebrated cowboys including Slim Pickens who, at the time was a rodeo clown. I also encountered Gene Autry along the way who tried to convince my dad to let me work in his TV production, Annie Oakley with Gail Davis. My godfather was the “Last of the Silver Screen Cowboys”, Rex Allen. I proudly enjoy playing the role although radio has taken me a long way from my cowboy roots.
